Is this Fishy? or am I all wet?

InfoMillionaire by Frank Kern / Mike Filsaime has made some heavy claims about some guy named Trey Smith using it to make almost $4 million dollars.

During the ordering process I was very surprised to see this short video where Trey claims most of the money was made selling IM software it cost him $17,000 to make, but as part of an upsell for InfoMillionaire it could be had real cheap.

I wasn't buying the 17k claim for the nature of the software, but who knows.

What I found more interesting was that I couldn't find the software being sold anywhere. The more I looked the more red flags I got.

Help me out here...

If Trey Smith was selling software to Internet Marketers and making almost $4M, I'm surprised I hadn't seen any advertising for it. Maybe I'm just out of touch. (Feel free to let me know!)

I found his personal blog - but no mention of any software. There was some other real basic stuff, but usually if an Internet marketer has a blog, and they're selling software to put food on the table, it's usually mentioned or linked somewhere.

I did find some people recently hyping Stompernet 2 with some canned advertising mentioning an offer for Trey Smith's Auto Launcher 2 - which had never been sold before. Basically, some blatant hype for a commission, and real embarrassing in my view. Anyway, that is obviously not the software as it had never been sold.

I'm not sure what the secret is, or why its a secret. Seems to me one would say - 'here's my websites selling this great software you may have already seen. Now I'll let you in on the tips on what allowed me to sell $4M of it, and as an appreciation for checking out InfoMillionaire you can have the software at a huge discount.'

So what's up?

    I have known Mike a long time and I have yet to see him lie about anything. You don't get to where Mike is by not telling the truth because people catch on to fast and then you're done.

    There are many online millionaires who you have never even heard about because they stay underground and don't want the popularity.

    I read this thread because it had the word "fishy"in the title LOL, everyone knows how much I like to bass fish.

      Brian, I used to work for a company that did $1 million in sales a day.

      If I told you their name, you'd never be able to find them.

      Many people work under the radar and you have no idea what they sell or
      who they sell it to.

      I'm not saying that is the case here. There is really no way of knowing, but
      what I am saying is, just because you can't find something doesn't mean it
      doesn't exist.

    That's reasonable if you calculate it at an hourly rate for programming time, especially at retail rates. At the bottom of the barrel price for decent Asian based coder that would represent about an 800-1000 man/hour project price. At a typical US price for a top level programmer/analyst, that would be about a 120-180 man/hour project.

    My own IM software project I wrote myself would be in this same range or slightly higher if priced at my usual contract hourly rates. Some corporate project I've been on have exceeded 1M in costs but when they save the company 800K a month they're worth it.

    You can do private sales and custom programming work and make a lot of money that way, mainly advertising through word-of-mouth and direct sales. One 2-man company I know does about that level of sales in the electronic medical records field just working local doctor's offices.

    It is very hard to know if this claim is true or not. It may be so. I know other people that do make claims that are true and I know of some people who claim things that are not true only to make a sale.

    I see a lot of sales pages where the HYPE is way up high and it should not be there.

    There is no way of knowing if Frank Kern / Mike Filsaime is true or not.

      The blog I found for Trey says "Frank Kern and I are launching Infomillionaire..."

      He could have used a company name for those sales but the inability to connect his name with high sales software products , especially in the IM niche, does create a believability factor.

      My own thought at the time I saw the sales claim was that he may have sold in an area he doesn't want to be permanently associated with - black hat, adult, etc. But that was just a guess trying to explain the claim of $$ I was hearing.

      Many companies with high sales fly under the radar - but it's rare when they are selling online in the IM niche. (Unless they are so under the radar I don't know about them:rolleyes:.)

        The video was a bit confusing. I think what he said was using this software he had created for $17,000(which he offered rights to) helped him to make his money, not that he sold that software to make money. In fact, I think he said he had never sold it anywhere before. What he did say was he sold a software program that accounted for most of his sales, not that he sold THESE programs to make his money. I don't even think he said it was IM-related. Could be wrong though. I do know of one program he is selling that isn't IM-related, but don't know if it's the big money-maker. It does fit the time frame though.

        You're kidding, right? Some of the biggest names in this business lie to people on pretty much every sale they make. I mean, you don't really think it costs $13.95 to ship 2 dvds and a newsletter, do you? If someone is being dishonest over $14 bucks, imagine what they're being dishonest about at the $200....$500...$1,500 level.

          Thanks for the responses.

          I agree that it is possible and, as Allen often says, the Internet is a big place. That's why I posted, to leverage my knowledge with the vast resources of the WF.

          I've found that while about anything is theoretically possible, unless some facts are found to support something, they often simply don't exist.

          Matt: don't get me started about Filsaime. But you're right about Kern and in the past I have assumed he will go the extra mile to make sure there isn't even a hint of impropriety, stretching the truth, etc. However, a potential issue arose with the use of Kern in a promotion earlier this year my office is currently discussing with the product seller: one reason I'll give the benefit of the doubt but still do the confirming due diligence investigation.

          I'm a little surprised. No one has heard about this software or bought any of it? That itself tells me something.

            Ok. Come to think of it, my first communication with him was over an
            over hyped site. But in the end he fixed the "issue" and apologized.
            After that, I never had any problems with him.

    Hey Brian,

    Like you, I've never even heard of Trey Smith before now, but as several
    others have already pointed out: There are TONS of Multi-Millionaires
    making money hand over fist online everyday that we'll probably
    never even hear of.

    Some of the most powerful people in the world are completely anon.
    They prefer to stay under the radar.

    That being said, I really doubt Mike Filsaime would tie his name to this
    guy if Trey was a liar. I've known Mike since before his "Guru" status
    and I've always known him to be an honest marketer. Yes, he's made
    mistakes in the past, but he's never blatantly lied about anything. He
    may be one of the Kings of HYPER Sales Pitches, but that's how sales
    work. He pushes the envelope to get you excited, but he doesn't cross
    the line and he's always over-delivered in my experience.

    And I really cannot imagine Frank Kern being involved in a scam. He
    was already nailed by the FTC for one of his earlier products for false
    advertising (he didn't use an earnings disclaimer on his sites) and I'm
    quite sure he doesn't wanna go through that headache again.

    That being said, why not simply contact Frank or Mike and address
    your concerns with them? Believe it or not, they will probably do what
    they can to alleviate your concerns.
