I thought the biggest time waster in IM was not taking action. ^^ The "refresh" addiction doesn't just apply to checking sales though. It can be when you're waiting for a response in a thread or waiting on hearing back from someone.

1. Read a lot in warrior forum and not taking any actions
2. Check your rankings and emails for sales almost hourly
3. Spend money on link building which does not work
4. Have just got some ideas in your mind but take it slowly to implement

This is something I've also found myself guilty of many times. What is particularly dangerous about this one is that it completely screws up any momentum you might have built up, and you end up just waiting for that reply/email/confirmation/result instead of taking right action, like you should.

  I would say the biggest waste of time you can do is not doing anything at all. Instead of focusing on reading on multiple concepts and hundreds of ways to make money, you should really work on developing a mind where you can manage to focus on one thing and learn how to stick to it. It's easy to start something it's WAYY harder to stick with it. To keep that mentality to keep going no matter what, no matter if you see no results. Believe in yourself and believe in what your doing and you will make it. The quest for eternal knowledge lies here, you need to learn that learning is a never ending process and you need to be able to take everything you read and apply to what you are doing whether it be now or later. Everything is valuable, especially within this forum. Don't be afraid to get your feet wet.

You are so right Brian! How much time have I wasted on that over the years! Also the more you check the more you tend to fiddle with your squeeze and sales pages if you are not getting immediate results instead of giving them a decent amount of time to perform.

My biggest time waster though is checking my rankings on Google... particularly for my offline clients... that can become really addictive if you're not careful!

I was going to say reading forums like this! But...I do get quite a bit of useful information here so that when I do go back to taking "action" it's much smarter action...so I guess that's not a waste of time.

The OP's point though rings sooooo true for me, though. Sometimes I'm just constantly "checking" things and it's a HUGE waste of my time on a daily basis.

I'm thinking what would be a good idea is to check once per day, quickly, and then reserve a few hours at the end of each week to review. That way I'm feeding my addiction but not wasting time over and over again throughout the day. I read a blog post about this a few weeks ago but can't seem to remember the link...good post though, OP.

LOL... lot of funny comments.. but so true.. you can find excuses all day to waste time.. I talk to some of my students and they say.. well back to reading emails.. (haha) I'm like, STAY out of your gmail accounts and start applying some products and making your own dough...

I also tell them to "Stop Buying Everything You See" and start applying some of it until you have money to spare from your sales...

Then I say I Mostly buy with "Intent to Sell" If I see something I can turn into my own product, and I know I'll at least make my investment back.. (then I may think about if I have room for it)

as the old saying goes "You can make money or excuses, but your can't make both"

Think of all the time you waste in a day.. and see how to cut them out and start to be more productive in your schedule....

Now..... If I could just follow my own advice! LOLOL..

As stated above checking email and PayPal or Clickbank sales can be a BIG time waster.
I check my Emails only 3-4 times a day and my support emails in every 2 hours.
Also I use The Action Machine for more productivity.

I had some ambivalence during reading this thread. The OP and other posters list (seriously or humorously) different things as waste of time in IM. And, I can agree with them, because all of those comments are based on reality (on some way).

I just would like to add that not every activity is waste of time what you think it is at first. Often turn out later, we spent our time usefully or not.

For example, to read an article, to see a video, to speak with your mentor may be very useful - if you brought out of it something, which brings you forward. But... chances are, that after finishing these activity you may have a sigh... this was a waste of time.

However, "...you will have enough free time left over to start that needlepoint hobby you've been putting off..." if you arrange your schedule. I know, this is not always easy when you're a beginner and didn't use a schedule before.

When I started my business in 1990, I was guilty in idle away my time. Since then I do some improve on my schedule regularly. I recommend that to you. The results will come.

Actually internet is not a waste of time if you are looking for information and learning something new. If it is a waste of time on the internet, probably there would not be billions of people online everyday and some doing IM.

It can also be detrimental for me if I get down on myself if the stats are not what I was hoping for with all the preparation I did.

I've learned to take it easy, a bit, and just analyze after more time has gone by.

Sorry, BUT YOU"RE ALL WRONG.

The biggest time waster is when my 6 year and 9 year old daughters bring the baby bunny and Guinea Pig to cuddle and "lovings".

Takes me away from my work for quite a while.

BUT I FEEL GREAT ON SO MANY LEVELS!

Have to fight the bunny for the raw carrots though, and she's pretty tough!

Update again from another post here.

Most of the things we need to do or check but there is no need to do like 4 times in a day.

Time wasted on checking:
1. All keywords rankings 4-5 times a day
2. Pretty link status too often whether visitors are clicking on my affiliate links
3. Awstats for number of visitors and keywords they use
4. Wordpress admin for pingbacks sites and whether that is the correct anchor texts
5. Reset pretty link count status and wordpress pingbacks few times a day
6. Looking at WSO and Warrior For Hire threads

Probably I have wasted 4 hours or so for all that.

This thread has made me to reconsider it is time now I should do some time management on my daily activities and focus on more important work that I need to complete.

I think I am not focus enough. I can work up to 8 hours per day for internet marketing. But sometimes I feel is not productive enough to do things. Example something I can finish within 1 hours, probable I end up 2 hours, probable I need to set a deadline for daily action, so it will more productive.

I agree, logging in to check your affiliate earnings if you calculate it takes an awful amount of time, ofcourse channeling that time to something useful isn't so straight forward when you want to find out how much you've made

I couldn't agree more. If your payments come via Paypal, you could also be seduced into checking your email far more often than you need for notifications of payment.

I remember when I first started marketing CPA offers a few years ago - the affiliate interface pretty much updates in real time, and especially when you're marketing zip and email submits, you could refresh your statistics literally every few seconds and see additional income rolling in. At one point in time, I think I had turned into a professional stats checker/refresher. I don't do that anymore, but that was a rough phase to get over. The biggest time waster, for me anyway, is not following my set schedule-getting side tracked by things like checking emails, jumping to something else that just crosses my mind. BUT, the number one, of all time wasters, has to be reading Any of those "can't miss", Must have", "Only Ten Left at This Price" offers. I just find myself opening these things without thinking, out of habit, I guess.

At times I've had addiction problems with refreshing the page for my click tracker just so I could see if more uniques were visiting my site. There are so many ways to waste your time with internet marketing that it's just ridiculous. But the worst is not taking any action as well as watching countless videos and buying "the next big thing" and waiting for it to make you rich when you've only put in half the effort required to succeed.
