Hi Warriors,

Just purchased a Flip - Darn nifty device.

Just wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a good video editor for the Flip (Free one would be a bonus). I need to cut some ad-libbing out make some other changes to the video I was recording.

Thanks for your help in advance

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all your feedback. Windows Movie Maker doesn't like MP4. I'll go check out Vegas Movie Studio

    Cheers,

I've been reasonably pleased with the suite at AVS4YOU® Best multimedia software on today's market. (not an affiliate link, but I have an affiliate link, if you'd like to use it), and VideoPad from NCH is also highly recommended (at Video Editing Software - Movie Maker and Video Editor Download Free - I have an affiliate link for that, too, but what I posted isn't it).

      PERSONALLY...

After a great deal of messing about trying to find the right workflow, and wasting a lot of time discovering I don't know squat about how to convert video, I have discovered that the single easiest solution is Camtasia.

Okay, sure, it's $300. But I tried to use Windows Movie Maker, and then CamStudio, and then paid $50 for Blaze Media Pro, and then $70 for AVS, and then $60 for VideoPad, and then $10 for some shareware thing, and that's almost $200 down the toilet before I even start counting my time.

If I had it to do over again, I would just spend the damn $300.

      Hindsight is 20/20.

I do not have an affiliate link for Camtasia - just go to TechSmith | Camtasia Screen Recorder Software, Home and buy it. There's nothing in this for me if you take my advice.

Have to say I love Camtasia for recording screen capture videos, but I can't imagine why anyone would use that for editing regular video, especially since it costs 3 times what an excellent program like Vegas movie studio does.

In any event, they both offer free trials so check 'em out to see what works for you, but for doing some simple edits to videos shot with a flip - I'd consider Vegas, Premier Elements and every other sub $100 video editing program (thre are quite a few) before considering something like Camtasia.

If you want free and easy with simple, very simple editing features you can use Mpeg Streamclip (for PC or Mac). Also, if you need to convert that pesky .mp4 to another file - perhaps to one that WMM will accept - you can use Mpeg Streamclip as well. I'm not an affiliate (it's free anyway) but I am an experienced video editor of over 10 years and I use this program at least once a day. It's great.

As for Camtasia, yes it's super powerful but not the right tool for the job, especially when it's $300; but then again, I'm cheap.

The cheapest and best bang for your buck is either Sony Vegas Movie Studio (platinum edition) or Adobe Premiere Elements. Both under $100

You can probably find something for free that will convert .mp4 to whatever.

    Caliban,

Thanks for your thoughtful, honest response. PM an affiliate link for Camtasia. Not on the list to buy today, but when I buy happy to buy through your link.

    Many thanks,
