How do you track and test banner ads?

Hi warriors,

I recently bought a banner ad placement on someone's site but I have no idea how to track it. The ad is not live yet so I would to know how to track these types of ads before my ad goes live.

I would also want to be able to split test my banner ads, but how do I do it since I don't have control over the ad?

Pardon me for my ignorance as this is my first time doing media buys.

Most people regard Tracking 202 as the best free service. It's not hard to use and it's a good tool to have in your toolbox

You can use an adserver to rotate your banners ( split test ) and you can use tracking202 to track your results .

  Thanks, I will check out tracking202. However, how do I rotate my banners on an adserver since I don't have control over the banners at all since it's placed on someone's site? I'm not sure how adservers work.

Flash ads (SWF files) should not use a static link for the click button, it should use clickTAG parameter, which is an industry-standard for click tracking. clickTAG is used across all ad servers to track clicks of Flash/SWF ads. Our system will ask for the actual click URL when you create the SWF ad in our system.

Hi - I often create a duplicate landing page, with it's own webform. I then track the number of views and sign ups using Aweber. Example here (test is now over so no problem sharing):

  This is an older thread.
  But a software i use to do my tracking is Bevomedia,
  rotate offers on the fly and split testing landers/offers.
  
  if your going to want to run banners on your own servers I would use OpenX to do this.
