Starting a Fiverr Project - Anything I should know about gig sites before starting?

The project is simple. Sign up for every gig site and post the same offer. to write short stories for the users. I figure since I've been praised for my creativity and writing skill, this seems like a more immediate source of income than affiliate marketing. But I don't know much about these sites, and what their expectations of me are exactly. I mean I get that once someone orders my offer, receives the written story, and confirms that he/she received, then I get paid. But that's about it. I only ask because quite frankly, these sites seem too good to be true. But I've also heard great things about them, so I know they're legit. Just trying to make sure there's no catch.

I've only done gigs through Fiverr, but there's no catch. Before posting a gig, look at others similar to what you're offering and see how they present their gig. Choose a keyword-rich title that will catch attention.

Describe your service in enough detail. Be very specific about what you're offering: how many words, what topics, etc. Give yourself enough time to complete gigs - don't offer a turnaround of 1 day, no matter how fast a writer you are. Fill out the buyer instructions part with very explicit directions about what you need from the person.

And say no to stupid or unreasonable requests.

    Hope this helps.

At $5 per story, it seems you'd have an extremely low hourly rate. Plus fiverr takes a $1 of each $5 sale you make.

I'll bet you could write product reviews through elance.com for at least twice the hourly rate.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna try the higher paying gig sites. Elance looks promising, but the problem is I don't own a lot of products to review.

  • Despite its faults, Fiverr is still the market leader.

I'd suggest coming up with a smaller service you can offer - and then upselling them to the short story.

Only issue is I'm not sure what other skills I could really excel at besides writing stories. I'm sure there has to be a smaller alternative in the same field. I also found a site called StoryMash where you get paid for writing stories. it's a unique concept because you can add chapters to existing stories, and people can do vice versa to yours.. might have potential.

You can charger $5 per XXX words on Fiverr and allow people to purchase multiple gigs for longer stories. There are MANY people on Fiverr who do this (require multiple gigs to be purchased for longer/more involved work).

That's actually a great idea. I'll try that out as well.

For example I'm working with a guy right now who is doing some web programming stuff for me and before I purchased his gig I emailed him telling him what I wanted. He replied and said it would be no problem, I would just need to purchase 8 gigs - so I did. Now he's working on my project, and I'll probably use him again in the future.

That makes it sound even more promising.

Use as many as you can. I never really had any problem before. If you encounter some problem with a site just remove your gig.

The "catch" is that fiverr takes $1 of the $5, 20%!

So yeah, that's a huge, huge cut in my opinion. There are tons of competing sites now, you can find lists everywhere.

Zeerk.com is one that I think is by a warrior, but there are tons of others like fiverr. I say go list on fiverr because you know they have traffic, but find 5 of the other top traffic fiverr "clone" sites and list your gig on them as well.
