Information Overload or Action Underload?

So here is the question.

The Warrior Forum is an awesome place to learn from other people who are successful in what they do.

Considering the number of people who can never quite find success in their online or offline businesses, where should the blame reside, if one were to dish blame?

Is the problem Information Overload or Action Underload?

I think it's information overload, followed by action underload.

    Rinse and repeat.

  • I think it's mainly action underload.

In my opinion, you should be looking at a ratio of 6 hours of action to 1 hour of information.

Most people, however, get distracted and keep reading and browsing forums. That adds to confusion and the information overload, and there's normally nothing tangible to show at the end of that process.

I love the way you put it. You've just said it all.

I think it's most often action underload. That said, scattered efforts caused by trying to follow through on too much of what you've learned with information overload is another serious problem. Too many people try to master a dozen things at once while running too many sites. Lots of sites is fine, once you know what you're doing. It's when you don't know what works for you and are doing too many things to easily track what's working and what's not that you mess yourself up.

I agree with your ratio of 6 hours of action to 1 hour of information. Although I have to admit I have fallen into the information trap

Both. Information Overload can cause Action Underload.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Bill, you bring up a great point...

I believe if people are always trying to find
the quickest way to make cash, they are going
to be disappointed with their results. Building
an online income takes time and you cannot buy
every system or method that knocks on your front
door. So, I'll say something that has been repeated
only a billion times on this forum: Find something
that works and scale it up. Stick with it.

Information Overload --> Lack of Focus --> Action Underload

It's the Chain of Failure....or maybe the Failure Flowchart.

Why not just take a little bit info and start focus on it

It is also indecisiveness, which may fall under 'action underload'.

By reading a lot of the posts on this forum, it seems like millions of people are always stuck on the little things... "should I buy a domain?", "will God forgive me if I don't get a .com?", "I like this Wordpress theme but that other one is so pretty it has that little bit of pink on the bottom", "Should I go for keyword X which has 20 million competition in Google or should I go for keyword Y which has 19.5 million competition on Google?", "Should I put my AdSense ads a little bit to the left or should I put them a little bit to the right?", etc, etc, etc.

I wholeheartedly believe that if people made decisions, ANY decision, and just moved on with it, their rate of success would increase exponentially.

Gotta love that! Bots don't see themes, they see content. Any theme will do, just get started! You can always change the theme later if you just happen to run across one that looks like it would do better for you. How many hours can you waste looking at the free themes over at the Wordpress Theme viewer? I ought to know....

        It depends on people's motivation.

Are they doing IM to earn primary income or is it a hobby to earn part time income.

Once that's resolved then the question can be answered.

Actually I think the information overload is a RESULT of action underload, not the other way around.

If one were to take decisive action on a specific business idea, he would stop buying all the WSO's and only buy what's needed to continue with the chosen course of action.

Only when you're NOT taking action, do you feel compelled to spend your time leisurely browsing and looking for the next best fail-save make money opportunity.

Sure but a newbie with no idea what to do, has to get information first in order to take action. I think they get the information, think about it rather than doing something about it, then buy the next shiny object. The cycle begins.

So in that case it's information overload followed by action underload. The information came first.

If one were to take decisive action on a specific business idea, he would stop buying all the WSO's
Exactly, they're not acting on the specific business idea (information) so the information comes first.

I do know what you mean though. It's a bit of a "Which came first, chicken or the egg?"...sort of question.

These two dragons are the two sides of the same coin! Practically, you can't have one without the other. Whichever hits first, get rid of it as soon as possible because the other one is just around the corner!

I think you need the right information at the right time. Business owners have access to all the information then every before. But taking action is a skill that may come easy to some and hard for others.

One thing that I have found is most Internet Marketers want to be liked and have a very fragile personality. So, if you are spinning around in a circle and you see value everywhere then you are in the right business.

I will test anything that has the remote possibility of being a success. If it doesn't work I will throw it out quickly and keep moving.

I think the problem is too many people rely on a new scheme or secret to make money. When in fact, they need to be studying the people that making money and replicate what they do - not what they say.

I deal with a lot of newbies and I can say without a dought, it's lack of action.

I know there's plenty of newbies here that might disagree, but I don't know how many people I've begun to help and say they aren't succeeding, nothings working, their making no money, etc, etc.

They also mention all the courses they've taken, ebooks, they've read, etc. But when asked what's their blog URL, Squidoo URL, Hubpages, hell even Blogger URL, they have NOTHIN!!!

PEOPLE, you can't get visitor's if they've got no place to go to purchase your stuff. I understand this is a shock to most, but REALLY, it's true. No one's pulling you leg.

The best advice I ever heard was that if you want to make more money online, you need to provide more buy buttons.

Once step further, in order to get more people seeing your buy buttons, you must build more links.

As Dan and some others pointed out, it's a combination. With so
many people you start getting the bell curve thing.

But those two descriptors are just broad strokes of the brush. It
gets much more complicated when you start looking at the specific
causes of info overload and failure to overcome inertia.

    But who's into blame, anyway?
