How To Change My Search Engine Description Results

I have been trying to change the description that is shown for my website when its searched for in google, bing etc because my current description is too short.

I already have a SEO Plugin So i don't want to use(all-in-one-seo)
i know that the change should be made somewhere in the header but i just don't know where exactly in it because i have tried and it just won't work.

if you want to see my current description just type "online-career.com" in google

If you already have a SEO plugin, it should have an option to set the meta tags. Someone more familiar with wordpress could probably point you to where to set this. It shouldn't be difficult though.

Not sure what SEO plugin you're using, but with all-in-one SEO, there's a box to fill out your Meta Description. Whatever you put in that box will be the description that is shown in the search engines. I'd assume your plugin has something like this, but if not, download all-in-one SEO.

  • If you are using Wordpress you can go into 'editor' and find the header css file and hard code your description there if you are ok using html (or just go to your home page, right click and view source code then copy and paste)

It would help if you shared which SEO plugin you are using.

Althogh technically you can add in the meta description maually it may well get overwriitten by your plugin settings so you need to check your plugin really.

If it similar to all-in-on or Platinum seo (see under settings or below setting for config links) then there will be fields to complete that will give you exactly what you want. Have you tried checking out the plugin authors website, it may well have the full instructions you need.

You can do this pretty easily by hand if you understand how your site is listed.

    Google's format is...

Site Title - Site title from your page's <title> tag here
First line of body text from your page. This can also be text grabbed from different parts of the page that contain the keyword the user searched for. However, I think Google gives weight to the first few lines.

By editing those areas, you can change how your listing looks.

Put the following code somewhere between the <head> and </head> tags in your HTML source.

    <meta name="description" content="YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE" />
    Two things to note:

    (1) Google and other search-engines won't necessarily use your decription in all cases. Sometimes they will show it; other times they will not.

    (2) If you're using Wordpress, you cannot really directly edit the HTML between your <head> and </head> tags on single page, since this is dealt with by your blog's/site's theme. So you'll have to use a plugin that lets you change it, or else enter the information into the "additional header HTML" box (or whatever the equivalent is, if one exists) in your existing SEO plugin on that particular post/page.
