Help with Wordpress Categories

For some reason my blog posts that are filed under my categories
are not showing up when I click on any of the categories in my nav bar.
I get a error 404 page.

However, when I click on any subcategories in my nav bar the post filed
underneath those subcategories show up just fine.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Here is the link to my website:

My Free iPhone Now - iPhone News, Reviews, Tips, and More

Go there and click on "iPhone Apps" in the navigation bar. I have a post filed in that category, but as you can see, when you click on that iPhone Apps" category it doesn't show up a 404 page does.

Now hover over the "iPhone News" category and click on the subcategory
named "iPhone 4". You will see that the blog post filed underneath that
subcategory shows up just fine.

You need to Post a page in the Category Iphone-News and not just the sub-categories. I don't think you have a page in just that category iphone-news.

I think your permalink is not setup correctly, but I cant be certain without looking at your configuration.

your permalink should be something like /%category%/%postname%/

you should also install the plugin top-level-cats, it will get rid of the word /category/ you can see in your URLs.

If your still having problems drop me a PM and I will help you

p.s. I just had a good look at your site, the permalink is working for another URL so I would bet you do not have a post in the /iphone-apps/ or /iphone 4/ categories. It wont work until you have at least one post in a category for it to be used, WordPress does not show empty categories (unless you force it to)

Yup, I just changed the permalink to the code you gave me and it works fine. I also added the top-level-cats plugin, thank you.

      I do see another problem.

I have a blog post that I filed under the subcategory named "iPhone 4" and only that category. When I go to click on the "iPhone 4" category my post does not show up?

      Any clues?

Can't see why it's not working because this link is working with the category/subcategory/, yet this link does not work and it is using same category/sub-category/. Something is not configured how you want it to work

Except those are two VERY different links:
          - one is a permalink to a single post view
          - the other is a category archive

There could be zillion reasons why the cat archive doesn't work.

The other way around: it displays the apps category but not the others!

Complete nonsense! Pages in WP don't have categories...

Should? Maybe, could... there is no "mandatory" permalinks setting.

It's a smarter and way more recommended (by WP devs) solution to change the default word "category" to something else.
With 5-6 post it's not a big deal but with hundreds (or thousands of post) eliminating the /category/ tag will slow down your blog considerably.

^^^^Changes has been made since my first post.

Do you have any solutions and what is the link to plugin your speaking of?

I never recommended that plugin - on the contrary: I think it's a mistake using it.

Not all plugins are great... some were born out of some specific needs of an individual and others are using it without understanding the consequences.

I am a plugin minimalist and it works for me.

Deactivating all the plugins and switching to the default theme - it should be the first step of troubleshooting. Then switch back on everything - one by one to see what's causing the problem.
