Anyone Created A Dating Site/Membership Site?

I am currently creating a membership site similar to a dating site or meeting people and networking site. Would love to get advice on how to grow the site and any problems or tips etc. that could help.

Currently going to be offering it for free until we get a few hundred people or even a thousand, then start charging monthly.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Start with a local area or a special interest niche. That would be easier to target than a general dating site. You can also start charging earlier because people that are into particluar hobby or looking for a type of person will be much more willing to pay to cut throught the BS and thousands of profiles.

    Here's some ideas:
    over 50 dating
    Dog lovers
    cat lovers
    cincinnati singles
    nashvile singles
    equestrian singles
    asian mates
    transgender dating
    black dating
"dating for people who hate dating"
    booty call dating
    country music lovers
    etc....

Focus your marketing efforts on this to build your database. Offering the "niche" site for free would be a plus and attract regular signups. Build your business in one niche then replicate in in the others. Soon you'll have a dating empire.

P.S. There's plenty of fish in the ocean...

Thanks so much. I am just now discovering the potential for growing membership sites. Would you say that most of your membership sites take awhile to get rolling?

George has hit the nail on it's head.

The dating niche is rather saturated and is extremely competitive. I would suggest you create a sub-niche that breaks it down into something very specific to get decent results.

How long would you offer free memberships to gain a good following then charge people? Im confused on when to pull the plug on free memberships
