Blog name that is already a .com

I currently have an html site. I want to put up a blog as an extension of my site name then link it from my site. The extension I want to use is already owned by someone as a .com. Can I use that same name for an extension? For example: www.mysite.com/dogtalk
#blog

Pretty confident it is not trademarked, so you would be all right. Also,
consider 'non-trademarked' domains can be the same but just have
different extensions and owned by different people.

    dogtalk.com
    dogtalk.net
    dogtalk.org
    etc..

Shouldn't be a problem, but I agree what was mentioned above...

Check out the other tlds for that domain...

Another option would be to add to the domain name... example "DogTalkBlog" or "BlogforDogTalk" or "KatiesDogTalk" or maybe even "DogTalkWithKatie"

    Good Luck

Is it better to do a blog that is an extension of my static site's domain name since I am linking to the site and hoping to gain traffic? Or, would it be better to have an entirely separate domain for the blog, then link to and from the static site. I want to gain traffic plus have the ability for interactive activity that I don't have on the static site.
