Newbies!!!! Something Something Easy Something... Goldmine!!!!

I have a full time job which, while internet marketing related, means I don't earn most of my living online. I also do some easy things on the side to boost my income. I will never, ever, tell any of you what I'm still doing on the side

Especially if it is easy.

Why? Because you'll probably **** it up for me. Don't get me wrong 97.05% of you wouldn't be a problem. 97% wouldn't take action. No skin off my back. .05% would work hard enough to succeed. I'd be happy for you.

The people keeping me from sharing the good stuff are the 2.95% who piss in the punch bowl. They'd go out, get clients, or set up partnerships then get lazy or distracted and never deliver. Or they'd go for the quick money using sleazy, often illegal, tactics. Suddenly my little sideline has a bad name, and those of us doing it have to fight a reputation as con artist.

Happened to SEO consulting, happened to affiliate marketing, I guarantee you it will happen to SMS marketing over the next year.

Hard truth: protecting my income stream from idiots is more important than helping you.

I'm not sorry about that, but I still want to help everyone out. So let me tell you what you need to know about making money that won't interfere with my life.

1) The Offline Market is Still Easier Than the Online Market.

-And there is a lot more money in it. A whole, whole lot more. If you desperately need money start there. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not advocating that you go out and lie to local businesses about your marketing prowess and scam them out of $500.00.

I'm telling you to go make money offline. Go buy a domain name, build a website on one of the thousands of free hosts, then go to the nicest suburb in your area and do the poop work no one else wants to.

I mean it literally.

Offer a service going by once a week to clean the dog poop out of rich people's yards. Charge $25 for a single clean up or $15 for clean up on a contract.

Approach lawn and house cleaning companies that service your target area. Offer them $5 for any sign up if they leave your coupon/flier with their bill at any house in your target neighborhood.

Say you get 10 responses to your offer lets see how you're doing financially:
Gross Profit: $150.00
Pay out to Advertising Partners: $50.00
Domain name +-$10.00
1,000 Fliers +-50.000
Net Profit: $40.00
Total time invested: about 10 hours

$4.00 an hour sucks, but guess what next week you'll work about 2 hours picking up poop and make $150.00.

$75.00 an hour isn't bad.

Now offer a good referral program to your customers. If the refer a friend, that friend gets half off a yard pick up, and they get half off a yard pick up. Keep up with the other cleaning services offering your coupons. Build your client base. If you manage to get 100 clients you're pulling in $1,500 a week (yes, it will take a while) for about 20 hours of work.

2) Educate Yourself.

I assume you don't want to pick up crap for the rest of your life.

Totally reasonable.

So take that other 20 hours you have in your work week and go learn your craft.

Learn about marketing. Not e-mail marketing, or facebook marketing, or reverse voodoo ninja avalanche copy magic. I mean real, honest to God, marketing fundementals. Learn what market segmentation is. Find out what market growth means for market share. If you can afford it (You can, you're pulling in $1,200 a week) take an actual marketing class. Or just buy and read the text book.

Now maybe go back to the internet and learn about specific marketing channels like face book or SMS.

3) Build Your Exit Strategy.

Doesn't matter what you are moving onto, just keep the money flowing from your poop business until you're next income stream is ready to replace it. Hire an employee or two to pick up the poop. When you're next income stream is steadily replacing 80-120% of your poop scooping business, sell it to you employees.

4) Enjoy.

Simple, not easy. Stop wasting your time and go make money.

20 hours a week of scooping is a lot less poop than some of my previous bosses have given me.

And a whole lot less than the lights getting cut off.

I think it's true that there are many offline business opportunities still, all you really need do is carve out a niche. I think of business ideas every day, I just don't have the time to start them up. OK, so some capital is sometimes needed too, but not necessarily. The main thing is to either:

    1) Find something people need that nobody else is offering (that's not SO easy in a mature market like in the West, but in emerging markets there are LOADS of opportunities, and even in Western markets people come up with great innovations all the time)

    2) Find something someone a few people are already offering, but do it MUCH BETTER, more professionally, with more passion (often not hard at all, the competition is often highly complacent).

    3) Find something plenty of other people are doing, but nobody is actually specialising in (plenty of cleaning companies, but no-one specialising in poo) and become the go-to guy for that.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise
