Newbie seeks recommendations

Hi there,

While i have quite a few years experience tinkering around with various sites and CMS, I am very new to internet marketing.

I found this forum via Pat Flynn's smart passive income blog. I have created my own personal blog to monitor my attempts to earn an income online, and my first niche site which reviews a very niche market of computer games.

However, because I am all so new to this I am really looking - and hoping - that some people with a bit more experience may be able to help me out, or at least point me in the right direction. Though I am a law student, the company I have been employed with part time has gone bankrupt, so I am looking to earn a bit of money online. Nothing big, even if I could earn a few dollars a day I would feel like it is worth investing my spare time into such online endeavors.

Does anyone have any starting out pointers? Any recommendations of products, eBooks or methods to earn an income online that have helped them?

Cheers

    Hi Veracity,

Welcome to the group of Internet marketers. There are many ways you can start your journey. I like your mindset that you are looking for earning few dollars a day to begin with because many people want to be Millionaires in very short time.

I use 3 broad methods to make money here.

    1. Adsense
    2. Promoting Affilaite products
    3. My own products

I suggest you understand these and other methods and decide on one of them. Then focus on learning and becoming expert in that method. Take action and keep working. You will succeed.

I am sure you will receive many recommendations here. Read them and take your own decision.

    Best wishes

If you haven't done it, Google AdSense and Clickbank products could be added to your website. You can also sign up at Yahoo Answers to get credibility (they also allow a hyperlink to your website in the source area) Give good answers though.

I go on once in a while for fun, and my last 3 answers were named "best answers".

Most important- focus on 1 area and enjoy what you are doing. Don't give up.

Like Giani, my online income is from three areas:

      1. My own products, specifically books I've written and published through CreateSpace.com. The books are (almost automatically) sold through Amazon.com, and I also offer digital downloads related to them.

      2. Amazon and other affiliate programs. I write about things that interest me, and link to them with affiliate links. The seasonal products -- especially related to summer BBQs, Halloween, and Christmas -- seem to do especially well for a month or so, each year.

      3. AdSense ads on some of my webpages. (I'm careful not to look too ad-heavy or commercial, since my books and affiliate reviews must be taken seriously.)

As a newbie, it's important not to spread yourself too thin... but also don't put all your eggs in one basket. I know that sound contradictory, but it really is best to focus on one income-producing method at a time, and then add one or two more income streams (maximum), gradually.

That way, if something goes awry with one income source, you always have one or two others to keep you afloat while you fill in gaps created by the third.

Personally, I like (and recommend) products by Kevin Riley and Jason Fladlien, and a few others in that category. (Meaning: Good for newbies, and very affordable products.) Also: Phil Henderson, Jim Edwards, Pot Pie Girl, Lee McIntyre, Phil Murray... this list could go on & on, and I'm sure I'm leaving amazingly important people out. (Sorry!)

I think you can download something like 32 free reports at Jason Fladlien's website. His humor is quirky and his information -- especially about writing articles and creating products -- is difficult to beat.

Kevin Riley has a new WSO that I've just purchased but haven't looked at yet. I'm sure it's excellent, and he generally writes for newbies. Everything I've bought from him in the past has been so good, I almost feel like I should have paid more than I did... so I keep buying everything he offers!

Once you're more experienced, keep an eye on offers from Leonard Payne. Right now, he has a sleeper of a product that's more an offline career than anything fully online... but it's good.

Also for intermediates+, when Oz offers anything, it'll be controversial but I like him. He's like Leonard Payne: Super bright and able to connect-the-dots in ways others won't see for another year or so.

Same for Dan Brock, but I think you need to put in plenty of extra work to get the most from his products. (Oh, he over-delivers, big time, but sometimes the biggest benefits of his products are easy to overlook as he flies past the topic in his videos, forums, etc. Listen to him very carefully, dig deeper and you'll be amply rewarded.)

Also, I like anything from the Rhodes brothers, and Mike Heath's three latest products have been good, and... gosh, this list could go on & on, but they're more for intermediate-to-advanced marketers.

      I hope that's helpful!

Thanks for your speedy responses Giani and GalenaEd.

I have accounts with AdSense, ClickBank and various other affiliate services. I have made a few dollars here and there from AdSense in the past, and am somewhat familiar with how it operates. My problem with AdSense is keyword research. While I have Market Samurai, i find myself constantly frustrated at not being able to find the -perfect- keywords to target.

I guess my biggest problem with ClickBank has always been finding reputable products, and products which can convert. Then of course, I have been unsure as to how to promote them effectively - through a review site that gets traffic organically from search engines, or by paying for ads that link directly to the affiliate link, or a review site of my own? What is the most effective? Do you have to buy all the products you promote? Sometimes it can be difficult to do so otherwise...

And yahoo answers is a really great idea i had not thought of.. So thank you for that one I will try it out.

I personally think the quickest money you can make is by providing a service. In terms of speed creating a product and selling it with PLR rights made me the most money fast.

Most affiliate revenue (IMHO) takes longer because you have to build the system, drive traffic, get conversions... make mistakes and improve.

If you couple some fast product creation with list building you'll make a pretty quick start...

If there is experience you can leverage (ie. is any of your CMS experience relevant to Internet Marketers) it could be a good place to start too.

      Hi veracity,

Great to see that you are seeking for people's opinions about making money online.

To cut the story short. I started online creating site with incomes from adsense, clickbank product and amazon products. At first, it was not converting well. After doing some research and using some paid keyword research tool, I managed to have a good conversion for the sites I am working on. It took a bit of sheer work and effort to keep it moving, and I believe you can do it with your determination.

After that, I have moved on to flip some of the sites for some profits.

And currently now, I have moved to creating my own set of products line to sell to my own list and the conversion is fine.

My suggestion is to start small, means one site first. You would require to test and keeps on testing till you are successful in one area before expanding from there.

      Hope it helps.

      Raymond

Ask yourself what do you know and what can you do. When you figure this out, stick with your own products and services.
