Email Marketing: Question

I have 20,000+ emails industry specific. I got them from datadepot.com. I want to send out our ad to these people. How do I do that? Can i use constant contact or aweber? What are the spam laws? Do I give another company our email addresses to mail it out for us? that doesn't seem right becaues then they just got 20,000 free email addresses? does email marketing work anymore?

any info is appreciated.

also, what is your opinion on services like datadepot,optinservices.com, etc?

thanks

There are no commercial autoresponder services of which I'm aware that will touch such a list due to the rampant misunderstanding of the CAN SPAM Act laws as well as systemic abuse.

The CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business

If you are against using bulk email providers you should perhaps consider getting your own self-hosted autoresponder on a dedicated server.

That's a lot of complicated questions. No email service like AWeber nor anyone else will touch that.

Paul (myob) gave you some good advice. I just did something similar to what you did but I had less than 1,000 emails. I made $15,000 annualized in one email blast to the offline business market. You will get many answers here, many WF members are not well versed in the Can-Spam Act. Be careful with advice here, read that link that Paul posted. He is very well versed with email laws.

Just because you think those are spammy crap emails in your yahoo account does not necessarily make it so legally. You won't get far trying to sue them.

I make a very comfortable living by doing, besides a few other things, what most people perhaps would consider spamming. I buy 10,000+ leads a week and toss 'em into my self-hosted autoresponders running 24/7.

An excellent autoresponder I've been using for years is Auto Response Plus They also will host it on their dedicated servers for a reasonable fee.

Another option to consider if those leads have any other contact info is to use them in this priority:

telephone calls (beware of the Do Not Call list if these are non-business residences)
      mail (post cards)
      email (least effective)

  • If you got a database of every email on the planet YOU HAVE NO RELATIONSHIP with them. You should get them to optin or get someone to endorse you. The sales I made is because people trust me and I have a relationship with them, so I would go that route and not the other. I know it's not what you are looking for, but how would you feel if you got the email from someone like that? Put yourself in the shoos of the person getting the email.

This mis-information is what I'm talking about as far as rampant misunderstanding of email marketing. As with many other other marketing techniques which have governing legal codes and standard practices, it is an acceptable business technique when done in accordance with marketing etiquette and the applicable laws.

So if you buy bunch of emails with autorespoder on your server. Do you send them to a squeeze page (landing page) to make them opt-ins?
What is usually the conversion rate between these lists and you opt-ins?

Why didn't you just ask that question in the first place? I only send one email to these targeted lists, and get generally a 2-3% conversion. It's a hard hitting one shot to a sales page promoting high end Amazon affiliate products. The ones that don't buy are dumped, the rest are hammered day in and day out for additional sales until they buy or die. I like to keep it real simple-like.

I had more server specs questions that wanted to run by you. You didn't give me a chance
So to make sure I understand, you send them directly to a promotional product? How do you opt in? I am confused. I thought the best way to do it, is to send them a free offer, that way they will opt-in. This is where I am lost, where to send the first offer (email) to?

There is no opt-in. When these leads are added into my autoresponder, the sales message contains a link to a webpage with more product information and an ordering option. The ones who order simply remain in the autoresponder for further sales promotions. All others are automatically deleted. I never waste my time promoting "free offers" when buying targeted leads.

With bulk emailing, you are pushing products to pull in the buyers. You are thinking of opt-in, which is pulling in prospects to push the products. This is a very different marketing paradigm, which is why there tends to be so much misinformation and confusion.

Sorry to have so many questions, but your answers are very valuable for me. Again, I wanted to do it in private, but we didn't. So... I have a site (my site), which the audiences are women. I am not interested in IM currently. I got a list of women emails that I purchased. So according to you, I should create a page with an offer to take action and that's it. How do I handle the CAN SPAM?
From my understanding I cannot send emails to anyone without their permissions. Again, I hope I am not getting under your skin, but I truly need to understand it, do it right and hopefully make few coins. Am I pushing it, to ask you if you can share a sample of a landing page you have done? If not, I understand.

i just checked our autoresponseplus, looks cool, but its 200 bucks. But from what I can see, its what I need. I can take these email addresses, 20k, or 200k and upload them to ARP and create a campaign and start emailing developing a campaign within.

my other question is what is the deal with sites like optinlistmarketing.com and datadepot? i can get my email message sent out to hundreds of thousands of emails that are already "opted in" to receive info. that seems too good to be true. and with datadepot I can select the catagory, ie, real estate, healthcare, sports, etc. I can also even pick by city, county, or even zip code! that's pretty targeted and since we are seeking homeowners facing foreclosure in our area and also real estate agents in our area, that would be good? what are your thoughts on that?

    thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with those sites in particular, but in general they often tend to be overworked. All I can say is test them with a representative campaign of a few thousand.

I buy my lists primarily through infousa.com. They also provide a bulk email service if you buy their leads, as well as doing postal mailing services. Another excellent list source I found for just about any niche imagineable is this forum Lead Buyer Network

I would be very careful in using these leads. There are other ways to go about getting them - sure it'll be more expensive (facebook, adwords local, etc. etc.) and more time consuming but ultimately they will be WAY more responsive and you won't get into any trouble (most importantly!). Tread carefully.

I'd listen to the guys about the CAN-Spam laws. That's serious stuff. You don't want any Fed Attorney trying to make an example out of you!

But, there has to be something you can do with that list. Keep thinking and asking, something will pop up.

@morphius. dont take this the wrong way or get discouraged because I was you at one point. I commend you for taking on a project and trying to earn money on the internet. Take it from me, it doesn't happen over night, or in a week or even in a month. It takes time for things to develop and fall into place and for you to learn. If you do not even have a landing page or website, how and what are the women you are targeting going to buy? you paid for those leads, so you want to SELL THEM SOMETHING. I have a website set up to capture leads, peoples info, people in foreclosure. they go to my site, they enter their information and optin, meaning I can now officially market and target them because they gave my permission. they have to click a link that gives permission for me to accept their info and to put them on my "list". I then send them details on avoiding foreclosure and how I can do a short sale on their house, in turn they avoid foreclosure.

I can also BUY LEADS, like we did. we have over 20-30k email addresses, might even be 40k. they are real estate professionals, realtors, agents, brokers, etc. I want to send them information on my real estate investing short sales product that they can buy. they click the link in the email I create, a good sales letter inside the email, compelling and relatable. they click the link, see the site and go OH! i have to have that, and they buy it. done. they NOW are on my list because they had to enter their info again in MY list called "buyers" or something. NOW I continue to market to them products like "upgrade your short sales" or "property tracking software" or "client management software", stuff like that? get it?

I totally get what you are saying and in fact I appreciate the time you took to write this reply.
Here is my problem....first I am not a new to the Internet. been on the net for 12 years with descent living. However I am very new to Mailers. I never done it, because I was always afraid of it. What myob is saying is totally different than what you are doing. And the problem I have with how myob method, and I am happy it makes money for him, is that it is against any terms and condition of any CPA out there. Because the CPA and I know CPAs personally is getting complains from traffic like that. Once the complains are coming in, they will shut down your account. And they will hold your money. I am not sure about Amazon, I need to read the terms and conditions. I am sure its the same. No one wants spam traffic. If he can do it? This is great. There is something to learn from him. Your method is very simple and I understand. I really think that the way myob is doing it, is very simple, I like it, and he found a way to make $$$ out of it.

We have said this over and over, don't buy email addresses. Now you have one choice and that is not a good one. Go out and find Mailloop 7.0 and buy a copy of the software. The company who own the the software is The Internet Marketing Center.

Then tell your ISP in advance what you want to do and get special permission. They might give you a special port to send out the emails because you are going to get some "SPAM" complaints.

If you want to know the truth, its a long shot!

I believe that when you buy email address from company like InfoUSA, you are OK. You see, when you buy a car and you sign the loan app, in little letters they may say, that they will share your info, and that's how it ends up with InfoUSA. So buying it, is legit. The problem I think, is that the advertiser (CPA) don't want you to send them traffic like that. myob was able to master it somehow. I think that is great. I would love him to share some ideas, and maybe teach us some tricks :-)

If you really want to know the truth, this is extremely poor advice; not recommended at all. Your ISP will shut you down for using bulk third party leads.

Well I disagree. If you talk to them before hand. I said its a long shot. And as a matter of fact I did it myself, but not with the kind of email addresses that we are talking about.

This is pretty much a waste of time talking about this because its too risky in the first place. I'm speaking about a few years ago when you could get away with a little. Now , you can't get away with anything, period.

I think they should delete this whole thread!!!

The other thing I wanted to mention is how do we take a rough email list and create an Opt-Ins? From my understanding we are giving them a free offer. Man!!!!! I don't know where to start to bring up a free offer? :-)

As a business owner you have problem running your business. A FREE offer is only going to solve a real small problem. As the price elevates, the bigger the problem that is going to be solved.

If it was as simple as buying leads we all would be rolling in money. The key is driving traffic whether free or paid and get people on your mailing list and work with them.

If the truth be known, there are no shortcuts. Sounds like some of you are lonely out there, and need someone to have a conversation with.

I can tell you this, when you build a list the correct way people on that list with keep you busy with questions all the time.

Every business has challenges, and every business you need to communicate with you customers. So this is not a concern. However profit from your customers is a concern. At the end of the day, you need to show profits. If you don't take a risk you end up working for someone that did take a risk....and then you get fired

Morphius, I am not going to get into specifics for marketing to CPA offers; that is your responsibility to follow their TOS. You also have the CAN SPAM Act laws posted here, some resources and general recommendations. As far as setting up an opt-in page with incentives, that is a marketing issue beyond the scope of this thread. Again, I provided you a link to hire warriors. Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You

Using bulk email is a sensitive issue for all commercial providers because of the heavy legal exposure and other reasons I have cited. If you don't know what you're doing, just don't do it by yourself. There is a professional provider I have used extensively myself and can do this for you - infousa.com which includes all the legal disclaimers in their bulk email service. They will not use your leads for obvious reasons, but their leads are cost-effectively responsive.

This is incorrect for bulk third party lists. As with all commercial providers, they require proof these are YOUR optin leads, including the IP from which they subscribed, and the date (must be within than 30 days).

If you have your own dedicated server, Auto Response Plus. I send out over 600k messages a day, so this suites me just fine.

        Thanks.
How do you track down who is the buyer? You have mentioned that you keep the buyers email for more email offers.
If you send the traffic to a page with offers from Amazon, and then the buyer goes (using your link) to amazon and buy. How do you know who was it?
Also, you are able to auto delete the rest with Autoresponse Plus?

        Thanks.

There is a lot of functionality built in, including a SQL database. You can track, measure and target click throughs. Any click through to the sales page is considered a "sale" for tracking whether or not they actually made a purchase. If prospects show no click through activity within any 30 day period, they are automatically culled from the database. The software includes 24/7 help for set up, ticket tracker, self-help knowledge base, downloads, video tutorials etc.

WOW, excellent. Thanks for all your answers.
There is one thing that I didn't understand from your previous posts... Why do you buy 10K emails from InfoUSA and you also send 600K emails per day?
From InfoUSA you cannot get the actual emails, they send it for you. I am a bit confused.

You do have the option of buying emails and sending them yourself (which I do) or you can pay an additional fee for them to email for you. I buy 10,000+ leads every week, which cummulatively builds up my prospect lists from many other lead generating sources currently totaling 600k active buyers.

I just called them, the sales rep told me the opt in is theirs and they don't sell it. They send the campaign for me, which I totally don't want

You can order online. Buy their mailing lists; it includes email addresses. Another source if you still have problems is this forum: Lead Buyer Network This is a lead exchange of lead buyers and sellers for any niche.

    Business Opportunities

    Finance
I think I know my business, and what drives sales :-)
