Hello, I've been working on a niche for about 15 days now, and I'm a little concerned that my niche is not searched enough to get good organic traffic. Between all the keyword phrases in the niche there is probably only 3,000 searches a month and that's about 15 phrases. I was watching a video somewhere, I think youtube and the guy said once you have found a niche that gets about 10k searches a month, then go on to step 2..which was starting the website and what not. So is my KW base not strong enough for good traffic? I get decent traffic from craigslist.. but that's not natural so i'm not counting that. Dennis |

If I use the main keyword then there are hundreds of thousands of competition and i'll virtually never get to the top though. That's why I thought you pick out phrases that have a search count that has less comp, or am I thinking wrong? (I usually am LOL)

I think it really depends on the amount of competition. If a niche market has little or no competition then a just a few hundred searches per month can be profitable, assuming there are products to promote for that niche. I've just posted a series of niche marketing articles on my blog that you may want to check out (check out my sig). |

Let me add a little twist to this to open your mind a little. One of my clients key phrases gets only 50 searches a month. Of the 50, approximately 20 visit the site. Of that 20 about 7 to 10 usually order. The average order is $500. And that's for one key phrase. So, my question to you is, "Is the key phrase very specific and targeting buyers? Or, is it general?" I rarely worry about the number of searches because my tests have shown that I could make some good money for myself and clients targeting prhases most people overlook. That's not to say I do not go after the high searched key phrases as I do. At the end of the day, "What would your target market type in?" |

If you are in a niche that pays $20 per action, 20 sales is nothing. If you are promoting a $1,000 offer, 20 sales is great. It all depends. TomG. |

Hi Tom, My ultimate goal is to build a list, then back end market. I don't have a personal product yet, however I think I should right one as I do have visitors. Thanks for all the input, I think in my case, the smaller searches are okay because they are very targetted and I believe people are making action. Each day I have between 20-30 visitors and I receive about 3 or 4 new subscriptions.. so that is a 10% success rate.. I think that's good for getting new subscribers? |

I think the key thing is not the search volumn. even if it has only 100 searches per day, as long as you win the competition, it still brings $. The key is: whether you can win the competition. david |
