Accepting credit card payments

I want some method to accept credit card payments online for a service I run. Currently, I have Natwest Streamline and Secure Trading combination, but my low volume mean the fixed expenses are too much.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Jon

I personally use paypal but I am dealing with higher purchase amounts so it's not a deep cut into my profits. There is many credit card processors out there, you may just have to shop around till you find one with the lowest fees.

We use Natwest/Streamline as our Merchant bank, and use Sagepay as the gateway.

We don't get charged any fixed costs from Streamline, only the cut they take from transactions (which are low compared to other providers like 2Checkout, PayPal, etc.) and I think Sagepay costs us around £25 per month, so that's the only fixed fee we incur.

So if you are paying more than that with your current Gateway provider, have a look at Sagepay, they have a number of different integration methods you can use and we've never had any problems with them.

Secure Trading are charging me like a £250 annual fee + transaction charges. Streamline are charging me £30 per month minimum fee. Do they not charge you that? Or do your monthly transaction costs come to more than that?

No, we don't get charged a monthly fee from Streamline, only the %age they take per transaction, which will come to more than £30 pm. We've used them for years but thinking back to when we first had the meeting with the agent, they may have mentioned a minimum monthly fee being taken if transaction fees were under £x in a particular month.

Have you tried Retail Merchant Services? I used to use them when I was in retail and they were the cheapest on the market at the time. Might be worth an email or phone call, they're in Milton Keynes.

It may depend on what you're promoting, but if you're already set up with Steamline, I reckon they should accept you.
