This would act as a morale boost and as an inspiration too for new warriors who are just getting into IM.
Share your techniques with which you made your first 4 figure income online and give some mistakes you've made that caused it to take more time then expected. So the new warriors learn not to repeat those mistakes.

The closest I've ever got to four figures in one month was last fall utilizing a combination of HubPages and Facebook to drive affiliate commissions. Now I am gearing up to replace HubPages (since they suck now) with getting Youtube pages ranked. I might break four figures a month consistently.

Amazon Associates in 2009.

Waayyy prior to that (in the mid-90s) I designed websites as a teenager but never made four figures from a single job.

  A combination of web development, Hosting, domains and SSL Certificates gets me around 5 figures per month net on average.

Affiliate sales using in-depth reviews of products I love and use. 1 review generates low 4 figures a month alone. I also complement my reviews with informative articles in that niche.

The key was driving enough traffic to my pre-selling affiliate pages.

Next: listbuilding on steroids (I hope). I muck around with listbuilding and have 1 good list, but seem to struggle. I do much better with affiliate sales.

  A membership website from 2000 through 2007. Then BIG business launched a copycat site, spending $10,000+ per month to a very slick Los Angeles promotion company and with that backing they grew rapidly. They appeared on prime time TV and had "product placement" of their site in a movie.
  
  I still have my original membership site, but in an average month, it now only brings in around $500-$600

First 4 figures in a month? Probably back in early 2007 leaving "useful" links in responses on Yahoo! Answers First 4 figure day - CPA offers on Google Content Network (before getting slapped and eventually banned). Neither method is viable today, which shows you have to stay on your toes if you want to be successful in the long term.

I Learned from a Super Affiliate Named Ewen Chia.

Before I found Ewen Chia i made $25.00 in 6 months.
When i found Ewen Chia and studied his methods i was
making that Per Day within 2 months time.

My first four figures was several years ago (maybe 2006? 2007?) with a bingo CPA program. It paid something ridiculous like $100 per new sign-up with no incentivization restrictions.

I posted on a deal/coupon site that I would PayPal anyone who signed up an immediate amount (I think $20). I don't recommend doing that because I was certainly sweating when I had paid out around $1,500 in PayPal without having been paid yet by the bingo site. But, they paid... and then shortly after stopped offering the program. It was fun while it lasted!

Easiest way to make 4 figures is to sell a 4 figure service... :-) Service income can fund affiliate growth and expansion until you can live off the pure affiliate site of the equation.

Make $1500 bucks. Was SUPER stoked.

My best advice is to find some high ticket affiliate programs and promote the crap outta them.

Most people come online and think its easier to sell a $20 ebook than it its to sell a $2000 dollar course when it fact its just as easy.

If you're sending targeted traffic, most good offers will convert at 1% or 1 out of every 100 hits you send.

So ya gotta ask yourself, what would you rather spend your time promoting?

A $20 ebook or a $2000 dollar banger?

First 4 figure month online? ... Myspace in 2005. When social networking was VERY new, it was insanely simple to meet and connect with groups and people of the same interest.

I built up friends in the LoA niche, met a lot of cool people, then sent a bulletin with an offer. Made 4,500 that month and was stoked.

Mistake... not building an email list back then. Dumb.

Through PPC (Adwords) back when clicks were cheap in 2006, and you could quite easily quadruple your ad spend there (or even more). Adwords is quite different now, but can still be profitable if you use it in a different manner.

My first 4 figures came way back in 2006 through affiliate marketing on finance related products. That whole market has been up and down over the last 5 years so I've diversified enormously. I recently ventured into Adsense and quickly got my first 4-figure Adsense cheque from re-purposing a load of my old finance sites and early AM sites.

The first time I earned $1000+ in a month (with IM) was last year. I got into a niche I was very interested in and I studied my competitors. They had some flaws in their concept which I took notice of. I created my site to be more customer friendly and I provided my visitors the value my competitors were missing. Thinking from a customers POV really helped. I monetized my site with CPA offers, which proved suitable for my niche.

4 figures, huh?

It was over several months but it was through Yahoo Answers posting responses to people's questions looking for hotels. I used a hotel booking affiliate program, but after a while Yahoo Answers clamped down on this type of thing and the affiliate program didnt' like it either, though they only told me like, a year after I stopped doing it as I still get traffic, amazingly, from those answers.
