Hey guys

Do you know if there is anywhere I can get a free domain or if I can pay through PayPal somewhere? Same thing with hosting.

Thanks

Godaddy is a good domian registrant but the hosting panel is over complicated and they always try and sell you everything on top including the kitchen sink. Ha.

If you're looking for a free website domain then you have to go to Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger, Wordpress.com, etc.

If you want your own domain name of choice then you have to register one and have it hosted. Most Domain name registrars have their own hosting packages and they accept paypal.

You can pay for domains with paypal at GoDaddy.

There is a thread to get a .com for less than 2 bucks here on the forum (coupon code).

You can get hosting at hostmonster and they give you a free domain. I always like to keep these things separate, but it is free when you get the hosting.

ALSO, I just got a special from them - not sure how simplified the hosting is, but it does include wordpress, and it is only 3.50 a month for hosting.

It is a customer appreciation special, and I would have to forward the email to you for you to click thru and take advantage (not an affiliate ploy - you will see in the email this is what they want people to do.) Although I don't know if the freebie domain comes with that package, but still you can get the coupon at godaddy and then get the hosting on the cheap and be on your merry way.

Just pulled this off the web:

HostMonster also lets customers pay for their affordable web hosting using PayPal.
Anyway, you can pm me your email address and I'll be happy to forward the email to you.

Most people here, including myself, will recommend that you do not register your domain with your hosting company just in case something happens with your hosting account. If your hosting account is suspended or closed for some reason you can just get a new host and point the name servers to that host and save yourself a huge headache.

Actually you are just in time!

There is a GoDaddy coupon code circulating this forum. It will allow
you to grab a domain for $1.47 I believe (Includes ICANN Fees). So,
after that, I would recommend grabbing hosting from HostDime. Sure
they are a bit expensive, but the quality of their network is mindblowing
and extremely fast. Well worth the small investment.

They're about a quarter of what I pay for hosting. The hosts I usually recommend are $11/mo (entry level) $25/mo (what most people should be using) and $100/mo (professional level)

Those guys are like a fraction of that. It leaves me wondering what you really get.

I always buy my domains @ Namecheap.
First of all they offer a free whois protection for one year (after that 2$/yr). Also you don't run the risk of hidden costs or something as everything is straightforward. It's not like godaddy where you have to click 100 times to get to the payout. And you can also pay with paypal that's a big plus.

I would suggest buying your domain from namecheap. Many of the godaddy coupons remove the option to pay with Paypal. For hosting, Hostgator is great. They have great support, are easy to use, and have a coupon code to get your first month for one cent.

Some domain-hosting bundles make it difficult to wrest away the domain to a different host, check the terms.

I know Blogger (owned by Google) is free hosting allowing you to use your own custom domain name with no added charge. This is one way to get a domain name established for only $10 a year. You can transfer it to serious hosting when it shows signs of earning it's keep. Blogger is a relatively primitive blog system, but you can find some substantial sites on blogger.

I know for sure that the $1.29 domain does not work with Paypal. Netfirms price goes up after the first year. After that the price will be higher per year than other places.

Thanks for the heads up. It is true that the $1.29 Godaddy domain requires a credit card or cheque.

For Netfirms, you can always transfer to another registrar if you are not happy with their service. So far, I am quite satisfied Also, some of my domains will not be renewed as they are not profitable and I am going to sell off another few.... all in all it is still good i think
