Wordpress has about as little techy stuff as you'll find. You could try looking into Joomla, Drupal, or vBulletin.

I agree with James. Wordpress is one of the easiest softwares to use. If you want something easier, get a free website on Angelfire and re-direct it to a domain name. However, it is about $5 a month to Angelfire to do this (to get the ads off the website) and you have to pay for hosting on top of it. So it depends on whether or not it is worth it to you to pay for the ease of use.

I use Dreamweaver for xHTML/CSS and NetBeans IDE for more intensive scripting (e.g. PHP or JavaScript).

Wordpress sites can be as beautiful as you wish. It's all down to the design of your theme.

I started out with Kompozer, then I moved on to Xsitepro, but I now create 100% of my sites using Wordpress.

It's SO versatile and easy to use that I can't imagine using anything else (for the foreseeable future anyway).

With the exception of Blogspot (which I wouldn't use for other reasons), all the other things mentioned above are too difficult and complicated for me.

I use TypePad, and sometimes Weebly.

Anything more difficult than that, I'd have to outsource, and it's not always a great idea to outsource stuff when you don't even know how to do it yourself first.

Fortunately for incompetent technophobes like me, there's no need to use anything very difficult or complicated or techie, to achieve a thoroughly professional-looking niche site.

I personally feel Wordpress is the best way to go simply due to its amazing CMS and as Will helpfully pointed out you can literally get any type of design you want (or have one created for your specific needs) by finding the correct theme/wordpress template.

I have used XsitePro in the past and have come away less than impressed, but I guess it does depend on what your ultimate goals are with your site.

Wordpress is the only one I use because it is so user friendly and easy to customize.

I do use some html for some of my squeeze pages but with themes like optimize press I rarely use them anymore.

Here are some tools I use for building sites... Depending on what my site is about I'll use one or a combination of all of them:

        1)Artisteer
        2)Dreamweaver
        3)Wordpress
        4)Notepad

Artisteer is really cool if you want to change up the colors and customize your own theme without knowing a lot about CSS or HTML. The license is pretty cheap, and is totally worth buying.

I use Dreamweaver for all my sites here. In fact, I been using DW for over 10 years and not planning on switching anytime soon. I got use to it too much now. Before that I was using Frontpage but quickly switched to Dreamweaver like a year later.

As mentioned wordpress has so many advantages and can do all the above - want something really easy? - outsource it!
Every builder will have a learning curve. I have researched this extensivly and (apart from Wordpress) - the best is WYSIWYG Web Builder
ease of use - features - support - it wins hands down
I could go on but check out their forum
    www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com • Index page
    anyhow - with a 30 day free trial it's worth a look
One thing that makes it unique is the way it uses absolute positioning instead of tables - this means all objects (text, images etc) are placed on the page x/y amount of pixels from the top left corner of the page - so what? - it means you can olace an object anywhere on the page - just drag em around - if two objects occupy the same place one will be on top of the other - just like in a drawing program !
Chuckle - wish wordpress could do something similar!

Joomla and Dreamweaver. I worked with joomla for many years and it`s very good in my opinion. There are some skills you need to learn but it goes. Also, like how many plugins they offer.
