How to make the Price of your product work in your favor...

A couple of years ago I stumbled on a way to use the price of my product to my advantage, selling every day master resale rights products.

Here's the story...

I was testing a script that handled the ordering and delivery of products. On the sales page I had the price set at $27, but playing around with the script, I set the price lower, and forgot to set it back to $27.

My visitors got the surprise of their lives. When they saw the price was lower than advertised, they felt they had the advantage and the resistance to buy was lowered, probably because they felt there was a mistake in their favor.

I don't do this often because I don't want anyone to catch on. (nobody reads my posts, so don't think it'll catch on here in the warrior forum.)

Want the price of your product to work in your favor? Then make a "mistake" and put it in your buyers favor. It's a lot better than saying the price is lowered in your ad copy.

Plus, it's a strategy you can use on the order form, a place where you have little room to help the buyer along at a critical part of the sale.

I quite like this Technique never thought of it myself.. Did you test this against a standard page to compare results?

    Hey Josh,

No, I didn't do any tests.

It's a sneaky little trick that I don't use often, so it's more theory, rather than cold hard fact.

      I like this idea.

It reminds of the "we can't show you the real price until you put it in your cart" that bestbuy.com uses.

Their reasoning is that the manufacturer won't let them advertise at a price so low, but if you put it in your cart "we'll give you a deal"... wink wink.

I love it and I've made all kinds of purchases knowing full well what was going on. We all love to believe that we're getting a deal.

I figure as long as the customer is happy and you make the sale it's a great transaction. Your idea is great thanks for sharing.

Actually, if you want the price of your product to work in your favor, just give buyers exceptional value...works everytime!

  • Try this one, it works: People are willing to pay $59 for a monthly membership, to get a continual drip of information sent out, rather than pay $599 all at once, to get all of the information. It's better for them too, they can master one thing at a time, rather than overwhelm themselves trying to do too much at once. It's a marketing system that I am talking about. But I use to own a UPS Store, $1 per day for a mailbox, always sounded better than $30 per month. Sometimes it isn't what you say, or what you charge, but how you charge. Give them options.
