Opening a Paypal account for a friend who lives in another country

Hello everyone,

I'm not an expert on such matters, that's why I'm asking the question here.

I have a friend living in Nigeria, let's call him Joe, who says he's not allowed to open a PayPal account, cause PayPal doesn't allow accounts from that country, if I understand it correctly.

He asked another friend living in another country, in Asia, let's call him Bill, to open a PayPal account for him.

Now, I would not be comfortable doing that. I would be afraid I might get into trouble if Joe is not reliable.

Am I paranoid? Or is it better not to do that kind of thing?

and how about if paypal limit his account?

if his paypal verified by vcc.. ebay usually ask ID and bill to resolve it and if verified by bank account.. you have to prepare bank account and ID too.. ready with it? just my 2 cents

I seriously would never do that. Especially to Nigeria. Unfortunately the country has a horrible reputation for financial fraud and it's impossible to ever get back your money or prosecute the fraudsters.

I'm not being offhand: my partner is from Nigeria (born in London though) and he always says he will NEVER do business on the net with people in Nigeria.

Also to look at it another way: you're letting someone else use your financial details. Would you be comfortable giving him access to your bank account? I wouldn't, not even for my closest friend!

Whoever opens the account is liable for anything and everything that might go wrong. You're not paranoid, you're smart to stay away from this.

Your friend could sign up with AlertPay. They operate in Nigeria.

I agree with Karen. Your friend could open an account with AlertPay. We have our own verification methods that would ensures businesses are legitimate. Once we have verified an AlertPay Merchant we offer a wealth of services and support means to help someone run their business.

On a separate note, you should never open an account on someone else's behalf. This will most probably end in account suspension and frozen funds (with any Payment Processor)

      Hope this helps,
