Please help Special Ed here-PDF docs need to be linked to a download page

My brain isn't what it used to be haha

I have a couple of PDF docs that need to be linked to a download page in my Wordpress blog. The PDF's are currently located in the public_html folder on my cPanel. I also have 4 domains on the one cPanel. I am SO confused. How in the hell do I get from A to B? I need them to link over to my download page.

  • I think I understand what you are asking:

As they are now, you would have to link to them like this:

    Code:
    <a href="http://your-main-domain.com/your-pdf-ebooks.pdf" >PDF Ebook #1</a>
If you move them inside of the 'correct' domain, it's just '/your-pdf-ebooks.pdf'

    Code:
    <a href="/your-pdf-ebooks.pdf" >PDF Ebook #1</a>
In the latter case the file is assumed to be in the default directory (domain).

    Is that what you meant?

  • I think Bradley is right. If you have loaded your PDF into the right folder on your server then when you go to hyperlink your text on the Download Page, it should be in the location where you put it. It may be under a "Document" tab where you have loaded the PDF. It may not be a URL. Are you using Hostgator? I now them well. Also you can get a hold of your hosting company if you cannot figure it out.

  • You also have to upload the PDF to the correct domain name under the right directory or subfolder. Also are you using FTP to upload files?

I can't find the correct location when I type in my browser, I get a 404. I can see the two PDF's sitting in the public html folder but don't know what the correct address is.

    So confused.

  • hxxp://your-main-domain-name.com/pdf-ebook-name.pdf

    doesn't open the pdf automatically?

It would be much easier if you move the pdf files inside of the domain folder that it should be associated with.

Mmmm, going to try Filezilla instead. cPanel FTP is kind of weird.

Filezilla would be much easier, yes. Just drag and drop the files into the proper domain folder.

Make sure you have no spaces in the name of the download and realize it is case sensitive.

Here is what you could do to make it less confusing - create a folder on the domain called "recommended" or what ever. Load the pdf's in there.

So the addresses will be like mydomain.com/recommended/myebook.pdf and mydomain.com/recommended/mysecondebook.pdf
