A small tweak that has led to a 30% increase in sales...

For any of you running membership sites, I did something a few weeks ago that really increased the signups I've gotten to one of my membership sites.

The idea is basically from Lynda.com. If you've visited Lynda.com, you can see every tutorial that they have, and you can view the list of modules within each tutorial, and you can view the first chapter or so for free. After that, when you click on the other links, it takes you to the signup page.

That's pretty much what I did... I put a link on the homepage of my site to the members area, and so now anyone can view the members area. The first few modules they can view, and then when they click on the other links, they're taken to the signup page.

It's working awesome... people get a taste of the value in your free modules, and then they have more of a reason to signup instead of just taking a leap by trusting your sales page.

Yeah, it's always a good idea to give your visitors a taste of what you're offering. Sure, a sales page might be good, but it's definitely better to -show- what you can offer as opposed to just saying you can. Software companies do it all the time with demos.

  • I agree, Nate.

I have a private board that allows visitors to see the various forums, how many threads are in each, etc., but they can't actually read any posts. It definitely does help increase sign-ups when they can see what they are getting before-hand.

What board software do you use? I installed a forum and I wanted that feature of guests not being able to read threads...

        Hey Nate,

That's a great approach. Are you using Optimize Press? Wishlist Member? Or....?

Profits Theme. I really like it so far- I've put it on most of my sites.

It's phpBB3 now, I believe, but it's been a while since we set that up. If I remember correctly, go to the ACP, Permissions tab, Group Forum Permissions, select 'guest' from the drop-down list, select all forums, go into advanced permissions for each forum, and you should find everything you need in there.

If not, PM me and I'll ask my co-admin to send me exact directions.
