How do I get it taken down? It's word for word something I posted on my wordpress site months ago. This is extreme BS to the max...

      That's why you want to make sure you have links in each of your articles (on your site, or on article directories) that link to your site.

      Now when someone "scrapes" your content, you don't care, because it's counting as a back link. Google is going to rank your content higher anyway, since you wrote it first!

        I agree completely with your first statement, but that second one is simply not true. We've had many discussions here where the poster is upset because they got out-ranked by another site using their article. As I said before, I'm sure everyone agrees that it should be that way, but unfortunately it isn't.

          I guess you could be right, but I've never encountered someone scraping my content ranking higher than my content...

          Every time I create a piece of content, I want it to be spread far and wide across the internet. There's always going to be those people who copy and paste your content onto their sites and don't link properly...so the question is how much time, effort and focus does it take to remedy that situaion? Is that type of person going to respond to what you have to say? Are you going to write a second email? A third? Then what?

          I'd rather forget about it and move on. Not worth my time. Those people aren't going to win out anyway. I don't know, maybe I've just been lucky...

            I've had my IP ripped off a number of times without links back to my site. I have a standard two-part form email I send. First part is headed "Copyright Violations" and the second part is called "How You Can Avoid Being Sued."

            It always does the trick.

            I agree with you completely. It's just not worth it to me, either. If your links are in there, it's just free publicity and backlinks.

            Now stealing a product I sell would be a different story.

              If your content has been scraped I would consider it a compliment, the best shows tend to have the most seeders on torrents.

              However, I can understand the debauchery of someone stealing your work and posting it as their own to be frustrating, it would annoy me. However, the more popular you get (the more visitors to your door) increases the chance of some of your work being plagiarized. If big music companies, book publishers cannot eradicate plagirism I doubt any of us simple IM folk can, so I would ignore it, and focus on writing your next bit of content, or creating your next money-making scheme.

              Or, you can indulge in DMCA take-down requests, and emailing the webmaster, and other forlorn (aim or endeavor unlikely to succeed) removal activities. Good luck, whatever path you take.

            How long does it take you to send a pre-written DMCA notice, with copies to their site host, their domain registrar and Google? Including looking them all up, and filling in the blanks in the email, it takes me 2 minutes ... :confused:

        Even if you place links in your articles if they are copying and pasting all they have to do is take the link out.

    There's some things you can do like...
    1. Go look in the Whois and find out the host from the nameservers, and then make a complaint to the hosting company of the copying site. Hosting companies can and do suspend accounts for such stuff.
    2. Contact the site owner and ask him/her to take the content down. Doesn't always work; if it is an autoblog from a stable of many others belonging to that person, they won't bother or even be aware if anyone contacted them.
    3. File a DMCA with Google Contact Us - Google Help
    4. If the site is using Adsense, you can click on the Ads by Google and report the site.

    Yeah, do that DMCA takedown.

    I had once had a client who stiffed me, then stole my work and published it. Within 12 hours of filing that DMCA takedown, the ENTIRE WEBSITE where he posted it had been shut down.

    The best part? It was a business directory that belonged to someone else. And I'd contacted the owner repeatedly about the theft of my content. He decided to take the paying customer's side of things ... until, that is, his whole business got shut down because of it.

    Didn't take him long to remove it after that. Some people gotta learn the hard way, I guess.

    Before you go both barrels, might not hurt to send an email notifying the person that the content is yours. Sometimes it happens without the owner knowing.

    I once contacted a site that had an article of mine without attribution (or permission) and let them know it was my article. The owner apologized profusely and said someone he'd hired for content must have added it -- he gave me author credit, linked to my site and went on to promote some of my products. Turned into a nice arrangement.

    One just never knows. Your call, of course, just sharing my experience.
    I've also been hit with scrapers and those are much nastier than the innocent ones.

    Set your WordPress site to only show excerpts/summaries to scrapers and feeds. Anyone can use the first paragraph or three of your work under Fair Use anyway.

    I battled these @#$%s for years and just gave up- it's really not worth the time or effort.

    I have had this problem several times. I just stopped worrying about it. Most of the sites that do this barely get any traffic anyways.

    When someone uses your article and then posts on their website, they will need to have your resource box at the bottom of your article.

    Make sure that every article you write, that you use a resource box and have your site there.

        I think what he means is that he didn't 'notice' it was on his site and, therefore, he calls it an 'accident' to keep his butt from getting sued. The reason he didn't notice, though, was because he probably uses a scraper that automatically posts the content.

        If he's using a scraper, though, it was no accident. He was well aware of what he was doing.

    I threw a tantrum when someone stole my videos from youtube and uploaded on their site... You know embeding would have been so much easier for them but no they actually went to the effort of downloading and uploading and whatever...
    I sent them a few emails, nothing came out of it...

    its just a piece of content, no biggie.. IF it was a paid product that you were selling that would be a different story...

      Sometimes you can, but it depends on the situation.

      I try to keep the right balance, there are some people who completely ignore the problem which isn't a great idea.

      And then there are others who waste so much emotional energy on it, that they burn themselves out.
