Default Give me some good resources on making videos (paid or free)

Hey everyone. I haven't used videos at all yet in my marketing endeavors, but I think it's time I give it a shot. I have Camstasia and I have a video editing software that I think is pretty good (although I haven't used it!)

I'm hoping you guys can point me in the direction of a good resource for making videos. I'm fine with a paid resource if it's a good one.

One thing I notice is that most videos are simply moving pictures with text panning in and out from time to time, but I'm not sure where to get these images. I know I could just use google images but I would rather not use photos that I don't have the "legal" right to use.

Any help would be awesome and as always - thanks!

What kind of videos do you want to make?

Do you need training on how to use Camtasia?

Do you want to learn how to make promotional/marketing videos?

Can you be more specific?

Maybe these will help:

YouTube - camtasia

YouTube - "making camtasia videos"

Have you asked Google yet?
"make promotional videos" - Google Search

Hey there,

I'm a little confused: you have Camtasia, but you're looking for a good resource for making videos? You seem to already own a great resource for making videos.

As for images, you can go to istockphoto.com or any other stock photo sites. I can't remember their names off the top of my head, but you can just google "stock photo" or something like that.

This thread contains a nice tip regarding stock photos which could potentially save you a lot of money:
500,000 Royalty-Free Images For Only €9.99

I'm looking to make promotional videos for a bunch of niches - I have Camstasia and although I haven't used it much, I'm confident I can learn it quickly.

I'm most interested in different techniques for creating quality promo vids and also the best way to submit them.

Take a look at tubemogul - TubeMogul.com | In-Depth Tracking, Analytics for Online Video | Web Video Syndication

Upload the video once and then blast it out to over a dozen different video sites. You have to have an account on those other sites. But this will save you a lot of time. It sure beats uploading the same video a dozen times to a dozen different sites.

Leaping,

For promo vids, get your pics together from a royalty free pics site, and head to Animoto.com.

Simple three step process,

1.) upload pictures
2.) Select Music
3.) Title, Tags, Description

The app takes your pics, and adds 'effects' to them to the beat of the music you choose.

You can export these directly to Youtube from within the Aminoto app, but I usually screen capture them with Camtasia so that I can import them into MovieMaker if I want to make them longer either with slides, or another video.

You can also do text overlays with it and it has a few other features too. I love animoto. It's perfect for 'promo' videos that are 30 seconds or less.

Thanks for all the replies - this is great

Marcus - special thanks for pointing out animoto - never heard of it before but it looks great. Looks like the perfect place to start

You can make some simple videos from the site www.animoto.com
As I'm new to videos myself, I'm currently playing around with their tools. You can make short videos for free, and they also have paid versions. I get my photos from http://www.sxc.hu/

You need to be careful with Animoto videos. Using them for commercial purposes of ANY kind is strictly against their Terms of Service.

They have a Commercial Account that costs $99 for 3 months or $249 per year:

Animoto for Business: Professional video. Ridiculously easy.

And not to sound self serving, but if you check my sig I have some great material on using Camtasia for marketing purposes...

I highly recommend my mate Gideon's free introductory videos on how to get video online.

He teaches you about the technology you need, lighting, green screen, software etc. Everything you need to know from an introductory perspective for both live action and screen recording video.

Check it out at -

It's free too and right now there's nothing to purchase either so you're not going to get an upsell or anything like that.

I use royalty free images I take with a camera or buy as stock images or from PLR sales.

Same for Music. Warrior Ginny Culp always has music.

You can make awesome videos from animoto - the end of slideshows but you will need the commercial license. (I have it).

Traffic Geyser has a built in slideshow maker.

Movie Maker or Camtasia have title slides, transitions and the ability to drag music in.

You can make professional promos in Powerpoint then video them with voice / music etc...

A Flip camera is also a great tool for talking head movies

Wow, Animoto looks incredible.

I haven't dabbled in any video marketing but would like to start. Animoto looks like something definitely worth while getting.

Also, someone mentioned Sony Vegas Movie Studio aswell as Camtasia.

Is it necessary to have both?

You do not need both.

Camtasia lets you do screen recordings, powerpoint recordings and edit imported videos. It is a good all rounder.

if you want to go the commercial route with videos my first suggestion would be to hook up with Lon Naylor who made screencast profits.

If you somehow were denied access there the next commercial option would be SpotMixer - Create video ads affordably and quickly

Much like Animoto, cheaper on the monthly fee and a back end like nobody's business.

They actually have an integrated "adwords" style google distribution PPC element involved after the video is finalized for promotion.

Pretty slick. about 50 a month.

Another resource to explore is Open Office - free and very nice. The Impress module is similar to Powerpoint and has an extremely wide range of templates, effects, etc.

Be aware that if you plan to use Animoto for commercial purposes it is NOT free.

You need to have an Animoto for Business license which is $99 for 3 months or $250 (I think?) per year.

Also, you can only make commercial videos for your own purposes i.e. you cannot make commercial videos and sell them to others.

Great tool but keep within the TOS!

I went to the local TV station and they directed me to an add community video company near by who put on weekend courses.

It was very good value, I think from memory $150 for the week end.

The thing is they showed you the tools of the trade and really let you get your hands into everything.

With what I learnt from them plus a few searches through video forums and a visit to the local video group I knew more than most.

Now I am no video genius but I have now made a few short movies and a few adds that have done quite well.

I use Pinnacle studio ultimate. It has a usb capture board and comes with easy to use software. Its amazing what $150 gets you. You can get it off the shelf at best buy or circuit city and its made by a division of AVID. Doesn't do screen capture like camtasia. This capture board captures from your camcorder or you can take existing video/still images and make movies. Depending on how you're making your vids, you may use this more than camtasia/camstudio.

The easiest way to create a video, since you already have camtasia, create some slides on powerpoint record the presentation using camtasia (powerpoint 2007 have an integration button), put some music, or add your voice recorded on it, produce the video as wmv and upload it to tubemogul.

To get images, simply google "royalty free images" the same for the music.

Best of lucks
