Is posting on Twitter really worth the time?

So I'm about to launch a new website with multiple ebooks, products, etc. and it will also have a blog. My plan is to use Facebook and also Twitter. Now there is no doubt that Facebook is very powerful...but is Twitter really worth the time?

It seems like it could be time consuming. I do plan at least having things autoposted to both FB and Twitter when I do a new blog post on my site. And I plan to really use a FB Fan Page...but Twitter I'm questioning.

Are you fan of Twitter for quality traffic generation? Is it really worth the time to tweet multiple times a day on it?

It really depends on your market, some markets are not that great to use twitter with. I have a few sites where twitter fell flat but facebook is working GREAT. I find for tech niches twitter is great, for sports and stuff stick to FB and build an email list instead of pushing RSS

What about a niche market like self-development or self-improvement?

To get some backlinks to your site? Sure, it is.

To get traffic so that people can click on your links and this will get your lots of free traffic everyday from Twitter? Nope.

Well traffic would be a bonus, but the backlinks from it may make it worthwhile.

It's definitely worth the time. You do need to get followers, though.

Twitter does good for anyone. If you read the post a while back online, Dell made over $2 million from their Twitter page alone, just by building relationships with their Twitter followers.

On Twitter, as others have mentioned, for building backlinks, it can be good.

For getting traffic, using autoposting, probably not worth it.

Now, if you get involved and engage your followers, that is where the money is.

If you're just going to use it as some sort of glorified RSS feed, it's probably not going to be worth the effort traffic-wise.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I think that it's good because you get backlinks and traffic as others have mentioned. It also enhances credibility because people will check your profiles to make sure you're not a fly by night(at least for offline they do).

Also building relationships by interacting is key. I will be partnering with another Marketer from another state as a result of interacting on Twitter.

    With Regards to Traffic -
As has been mentioned above, if you create a relationship with REAL people (this is key, so many bots around) they'll be more way inclined to click on your links. It is possible to do it without creating much of a relationship but for that you will be looking at having around 6 figure amounts of followers.

I agree with a lot of the comments above, but would like to interject that the most effective way to use twitter is to do a combo of automated and real tweets. It's way to time consuming to do it all by hand.

In both cases it should always be aimed at building that personal relationship.

The problem with the way that most people use bots is that they always look like, act like, and feel like spam because they treat it like tweeting is like one short email blast to the world. But if done right, it can be a great way to boost traffic in a highly underutilized medium.

Like they said- A lot of your success is very dependent on your market too. I've found that the dominating markets there are mostly under 25 and talking about their social lives or are other marketers of sorts trying to pitch their wares.

I am perplexed as I see every day on this forum where people say "Should I do this on a free platform? Will it work?"

SEO/IM is a series of hundreds, if not thousands of throwing bits of info out into the internet and seeing what works and doesn't work.

Of course you should try it with twitter

It's only worth your time if you know how to write good Headlines and have many targetted followers.

Yes I believe twitter is a great tool for driving traffic. I have been using twitter for my business for about a year and I have seen steady traffic coming from there.

It will absolutely help you get conversions and grow your business

I believe that although there are many people on Twitter advertising it is still worth utilizing. Instead of taking your valuable time day in and day out posting to twitter it may suite you to download Tweet Adder 3. This is a Twitter platform where you can automate your tweets. You can Tweet 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week without having to even log into Twitter unless you feel the need.

    Good Luck with your website.

Twitter is great and helped me get my site started. I use it somewhat as an RSS feed but also comment when people tweet to me, etc. It's a good source of backlinks and just getting the ball rolling when you're starting out.

You also have to have a good follow/unfollow strategy that won't get you suspended by twitter. It's their universe after all...
