I Am Thinking About Developing A Site With My Physical Products And Affiliate Products

I am fairly new to affiliate marketing. In the past I used to import products and sell them wholesale and have some inventory left after I shut this business down.

I thought I would develop a site to sell off this physical product at the same time adding some complimentary affiliate products to "round out" the product offering.

When my physical product is gone then I would continue on with just affiliate products.

It's a product area I know something about and I could sell off my inventory.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing, or any comments. I'm I trying to mix "apples and oranges"?

Thanks,

Grant

Maybe ... but maybe there's no law against it.

I resisted this, for a long time, myself ... wondering if it was mixing apples and oranges. And then I decided to try it, in one of my niches. I'm promoting a physical product and a Clickbank product (as an affiliate, in both cases). They both pay me about the same. The same traffic's appropriate to each product.

    Nothing terrible happened.

    I make sales of each.

    Try it.

Probably not worth building up a site for a short lived product, eBay might suffice, it's not just garage sales, you can find bulk offerings to eBay sellers, which might be a quick way out for you.

Yeah or I was going to suggest amazon might work well.

I sold a few physical products with the first site I had online in '98. Here are some ideas:

You have to decide if you can do this by looking up how much competition you would have and how much work it would take to compete with them. You will need to match their price, or add something in that makes yours the better choice and you can charge more.

I had included a printed set of instructions and tips that people wanted. This was not in the original package.

You want to make sure you have enough markup - twice to three times cost (include the shipping costs), in order to make a good profit. So if total cost to you is $5, be sure to charge at least $10...

Is there another business that you can put an affiliate link to as an affiliate when you have sold off your inventory?

Eventually you have to decide whether to continue selling physical products. For me, it was not worth the lost packages through the post office, some serial refunders, standing in line at the post office, people who were cutting the price online, etc.
