How many blogs I can set up in one WordPress 3.0?

Dear all Warriors,

I just installed a new wordpress 3.0 on my hostgator account. Everything works great. I am going to create several different blogs under different sub domains. Just curious, how many blogs can I create under one wp3.0 performance-wise? My plan has unlimited spaces/database/bandwith, but I don't want to create too many blogs which could slow down my sites. So, what is a reasonable number of blogs I can create for one wordpress installation?(Each blog probably will have 30 posts at most.)

Thanks.

Every plan that sells "unlimited" whatever... is a lie. There is no such thing as unlimited. Forget it - and read the TOS: it is always there hidden in a lot of small print

The number of possible blogs will depend mainly on the database connections allowed in the same time.

That is what I figured, Because apparently, it cannot be "unlimited". That is why I am wondering, should I keep adding blogs under one wp3.0 and map it to different domains or once I get a certain number of blogs, say 20s, I then better to get a new hosting account? You know what I mean?

On Hostgator, I've had as many as 100 blogs installed. None were real high traffic and none were autoblogs or had other plugins that used a chron job, which puts a heavy load on the server. Never been contacted by them yet that I've hit the magic number.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but you have to install Wordpress for each domain or subdomain that you want a blog on. Your one installation that you have is one blog.

Actually, Suzanne, WP 3.x.x has the built-in ability to create multiple blogs with one single install. Since v3. the old WordPress and WordPress MU has been merged.

Yeah, I read all about it. Couldn't figure out how to accomplish that and couldn't find any answers. There were references to links in the Wordpress control panel that did not exist in my Wordpress control panel. Decided that the one minute install of Wordpress didn't take up much of my time so stuck with the good old fashioned way. lol.

Set up 1 domain, many subdomains and 1 installation / blog per subdomain. I believe that should work ok.
