What do you do if you are permanently suspended from a freelancing site you were dependent on 100%

Hi,
I was wrongly suspended permanently from a freelancing site that has been my source of income for years. Basically they accused me of something I did not do this is the message they sent me

As of 26-May-2011 ACCOUNT has suspended your account .

Comment from Support: Your account has been suspended for violation of Our policy.

Unfortunately, we have identified that you engaged in a payment outside our Company. This is categorized as violation "Disintermediation" and it is a serious marketplace violation.

Our Company retains the right to limit your ability to work in our Marketplace for violations of the Marketplace agreement. You will have the ability to continue with your active assignments and withdrawal funds. However, you are no longer allowed to accept or apply to additional jobs.

Once you complete your active contracts, you will no longer have the ability to use the our platform. In addition to this, you are not allowed to use the service under a different account or re-register under a new account. If you create an additional account, all funds will be held and we will report you to the local authorities.

This decision is final, all attempts to contact support for reinstatement will be denied.

Thank you for your compliance.

Please contact us and reference your User ID to discuss the status of your account.

Thanks,
Support

I have to get an immediate source of income
I am a proficient SEO content writer
I am contemplating starting my service thread here.
I am contemplating never to work for a freelancing site again
I am worried of how to pay my bills since I have been earning the top dollar now am a pauper.
I want to start my own article writing service website

I am confused
Please help me with any suggestion.

The decision is final, yet they say "please contact us and reference your User ID to discuss the status of your account"

As it stands, you might need to move on to another avenue. You can press to keep bugging them to let you back in, but at the end of the day, there are other channels and markets. As proficient as you claim to be, then you shouldn't have any problems getting back on your feet here.

    Just look forward and move.

    • From the freelancing site's standpoint, hiring and firing workers on the Internet is perfect, because all they have to do is keep ignoring your emails and eventually you will go away.

But when eBay suspended me a few years ago over a false charge from a disgruntled buyer, they didn't have the option of ignoring me. I live 30 miles from San Jose. I made some nice big signs, jumped into the car and spent most of a day picketing in front of eBay's headquarters. I say "most of a day" because I was reinstated, with an apology, by 2:30 that afternoon.

eBay was my sole income at that time and even with a quick reinstatement I still lost $2,500 in sales. The lesson was clear: Don't be 100% dependent on any entity. I know you have figured that out by now.

I would contest them and push for reinstatement. At the same time, use this to your advantage and explore other avenues.

Make a post in the Warriors For Hire Section and you're bound to be snapped up.

First all I am sorry that happened to you, may be the freelancer site should have looked more into your matter as you were a top seller there. But thats the thing of the past, you have to move ahead.

Seriously, if you have skill then you can earn anywhere. You can use Warrior forum for this purpose (Warrior for HIRE to sell your SEO or content writing services) & once you have some money to invest, you can start out your own content writing service website.

Possibilities are endless, just relax & start working with a reason to show them all that you don't need a specific website or service to succeed in life.

I know this has happened because you are destined for much more success.

My best wishes with you, other warriors will help you a great deal.

    Cheers

It might not have been a payment and I do think you should call and try to discuss it with them.

Did you suggest to a buyer from that site that you could or would work for them outside the site? Did a buy ask if you would work outside the site and receive other than a "no" from you? If they reported that, it would be enough.

Don't know about other freelance sites, but on elance I think you have to work with a repeat buyer for a full year before you can consider taking the work outside EL.

I am a very honest person and I don't break any TOS of where I work or any professional association. I was surprised to get this discriminatory message. I have not had a problem with buyers that is why I am protesting this decision. I have not accepted working outside the TOS. I insist my innocence and I will be building my own business.

If you know you have never suggested this or indicated you'd be willing to work outside the site - then the message is incorrect.

I would call them and discuss it. They don't take such action lightly and you need to know why they think you violated their terms. Sounds like their information is wrong - so fight it.

I've read through this whole thread and some great advice has already been given but one thing that I didn't see was a list of some places you can find work outside the Warrior Forum so here goes...

                Odesk
                Freelance
                Elance
                Fiverr

These are just a few of the freelance sites out there. The one you got banned from is probably on the list but don't worry...there's more!

Try these article service sites as well.

                Articlez.com

Textbroker.com <-- this site pays UP TO 5 cents per word if you're good. Yep, that's $25.00 for a 500 word article.

If you are not up to that level they pay .7 - 1.4 cents per word for lesser quality articles (depends on quality).

                Hope this helps!

Is this what they pay Level 5 writers? Because I am a level 4 and a 500 word article was....about 7 bucks if I recall correctly. If the pay jumps that much at Level 5, I hope they get to re-rating me soon!

Yep, this is Level 5 writer pay. Level 4 is 1.4 cents per word if I remember correctly. They actually have a section for authors anyone can view to check the pay rates.

Is this a copy of the actual e-mail sent to you? I'm trying to find like incidences on the web. After various search techniques I can find no other reference except for your identical post at b***hat.com. Very Odd:confused:

Post a $20 classified ad in the warrior classified section and get on with it. If you are of the talent you state, you could no doubt replace and increase your income in a relatively short period of time.

First, you should never put your eggs in one basket - ever, especially as a freelance writer depending on ANOTHER site to get work. If you are truly a "freelancer" you work for MANY people, that is the whole point.

When the whole Amazon affiliate thing happened for certain states, people were freaking out as well because their entire business was based on income as an Amazon affiliate. When you depend on other websites for income, you can always get fired. Just like that! Often times, there is some fine print you may have missed. Essentially, they can do whatever they want for the most part.

I would suggest you create your OWN business, set your OWN rates, and your OWN website. TO be honest, those bidding sites and content farms just don't pay the bills anyhow. There is a great thread on LinkedIn about freelance writing you may want to look into (if you are not on Linked In, you may want to join - great place to network.) Good luck!

I agree w/ what others have said here. You should make an effort to overturn the decision, but don't sit around and wait for it. Use this as an opportunity to rectify the mistake you made of relying on one company. What is your area if expertise or specialty?? I don't think $.05/word is that "good." The best thing to do, if you are serious about being a freelance writer, is create your own site and find clients willing to pay for content. If you are going to sign up with sites like oDesk, etc, you will be back to where you started - depending on someone else for "pennies".

Writing well-researched, quality content takes time and you should be paid for that time...more than $10 or $15 an article. If you live in the United States, you will be slaving all day to make a living - you may as well flip burgers at McDonald's for those rates. But, on the other hand, if you are looking to make that kind of rate, there are PLENTY of places to find that on content farms.

Hmm, $.05 a word isn't that good? You must be a ROCK star! (and I mean that in a good way)

But for most people...even if it took you a full hour to research and write one 500 word article that's $25. That's more than 97% of the population on EARTH earns.

      In fact, if you do the math...40 hours x $25 = $1,000.

      $1,000 x 52 weeks = $52,000 / year which in most places is a decent living.

Now, on the flip site if your writing full blown ebooks which can run 15k+ words than I agree 100% that $0.05 per word is a rip off. I have seen rates from good writers closer to $20 per page in this case.

      Cheers!

Don't give up. What you need to do is reach the person who has the power to help you, state your case, and provide evidence to show that you are innocent.

Step #1: Find out who the (or a) top person is in the company.

Step #2: Write them a letter. Include the documentation you said you have that proves you did not violate their TOS.

And this is the important part...

Step #3: Send it to them via express mail. Do NOT send e-mail. Do NOT call.

Follow-up with a phone call or a second letter if you don't hear back within a week.

It may not work -- but this plan will give you the best chance of success.

    Good luck,

        Joe,

When you write to them, DO NOT be rude or arrogant. DO NOT make any threats (such as taking legal action) or accusations. You want them to realize that you are the victim of a bad decision or mistake.

I worked in corporate American for many years. If you make accusations or are rude, they will slam the door closed on you. You want the person who reads your letter to be sympathetic toward your situation. So be very polite and respectful. Ask for their help in correcting a unjust mistake.

        Good luck to you.

I hire a lot of people via these type of sites and am often solicited from providers who want to "take things off-site." Obviously, this can cost these sites a amount substantial of revenue, so most are pretty strict on making sure it doesn't happen. Because of this, they are sometimes be trigger-happy.

If you're losing a substantial amount of money because of this decision, there are two things I suggest...

    1. I'd absolutely call or email them to see if there is anything you can to do have them reverse the decision.

    2. Diversify! You don't want to be at the mercy of one company's decision. Get on some other sites and start building your reputation elsewhere.

Joe, I think you'd be much better off with your own site and building up a client list... I honestly couldn't stand a freelancing site where people love to act holier than thou and bid for the lowest cost they can find.

Good luck getting your account back. Johns advice of being polite would be pretty good - being rude usually irritates more people and they'll be less likely to help you (although I would understand if you're a bit mad they close your account without any proof).

    All the best,

If you are going to try to dispute the allegation, I wouldnt recommend doing so with a letter. They are much more likely to ignore a letter than they are a phone call. Try getting a contact number and pleading your case.

You could always see this as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and start working from your own site. Create a portfolio to help you gain private clients. Posting a Warriors for Hire thread is also a good idea.

      Kecia,

Having worked in management at a large corporation, I disagree with your advice.

Now, a phone call might work. But it's very unlikely. Why? Because when you call on the phone, you're going to get a grunt. And, nine times out of ten, they're going to mindlessly echo the rules to you. You'll usually get exactly nowhere.

What you MUST do is reach a decision maker. Somebody who can bend the rules for you. To do that, you need to circumvent the system -- you have to go directly to the top.

An express mail letter will give you the best chance of success. It will land on the executive's desk and be placed on the TOP of the pile. Written inquires are usually given more weight and taken more seriously. I've witnessed this sort of thing many times.

In Joe's situation, maybe nothing will work. I don't know. But, if it was me, I'd use a bazooka (letter), not a spitball (phone call).

My advice would be to forget the freelancing sites.

I would go to ezinearticles click into some of the articles and follow the links to their sites. Once on their site, I would search their site for an email or contact form to contact the site owners directly. Or you could also do a whois to find a mailing address to send them a letter.

Offer those site owners your services. Since writing is a repeat business I am sure that in no time you will build up your income and replace your current income.

Truthfully though you don't even need to use ezinearticles to find work. Just start looking up contact info for sites listed in google and let them know that you provide writing services.
