Beginner looking for answers..

Hi everyone! I guess I will give a little background to begin with. My name is Matt and I am a PC technician turned network/server specialist at a university where I live. I have a wife that is 5 months pregnant and I am excited and terrified at the same time. A year and a half ago I decided to start looking for work "outside of work" online. I signed up for Support Space. Not sure if you guys have ever heard of that, but it is basically a place where PC tech's can work from home by remote desktop connection and get paid commission. During that time I came across a website called black hat world. I read a little, but quickly dismissed it. Fast-forward a year and here I am. Baby on the way and scrambling to end the paycheck to paycheck cycle that I'm sure many of you are familiar with. I have been studying and reading for the past month and feel like I am extremely close to making money but I just don't quite "get it". At first I found click bank, created a YouTube channel and attempted to monetize it. FAILED. Next I purchased 2 domains which I am still currently working on, but I just can't seem to get it how I want it. I feel like I have read every WSO/eBook under the sun. Books about click bank, SEO, CPA, Facebook, Twitter, you name it and I've probably read it or read about it. After all of this, I still can't seem to make a dime. It almost seems like the books give you just enough to get you hooked, but not enough to get you where you want to be. I'm not even sure what the point of this post is. I'm frustrated and I've had a few drinks, so I guess I'm on here to whining. If there is anyone on here willing to share some advice or partner up and share ideas I would love that. Well that's all I got.
PS. If there are any experienced warriors willing to take a look at what I'm currently working on. PLEASE PM me!

Matt

Hey matt, you're in a pretty similar position to a lot of people on here. First up - don't rely on marketing for living just yet. Make sure you have a backup income while you build this up on the side.

Next, try not to get distracted by different 'methods' and one off schemes to get money. You want to establish a website and have something long term. I suggest getting a wordpress blog online ASAP. Make the site about a niche topic and start writing content in the hope of getting traffic. Once you get traffic you can make money.

It wont make any money and you'll make tons of mistakes, but the learning is invaluable

By the time you've done all that you'll have some experience, some skills, and you would have learnt a whole lot more on the forum ready to tackle a better project.

    Good luck!

    Hey Dyzmal,

It seems like you're jumping around allot. Try and stick to something for at the VERY least a month. Write down your exact plan of action, what you'll be doing everyday to achieve your long term goal, and follow it diligently.

Also remember that most people will see many many failures and spend many many hours before they ever even see their first dollar.

Also, I personally love youtube, it's a very powerful source of free traffic. You don't have to focus on it but it can always aid you on your way no matter what direction you choose.

Last but not least, don't dismiss blackhatworld! It is a VERY informative place, combine that with warrior forum, and you'll have absolutely everything you need.

Hopefully I've helped a tad bit, I would PM you but I am fairly new to this forum.

Good Luck! I know you'll start making money soon! Stay committed!

Thank you both for your advice. I have not, and probably will not quit my job. I am still working in the IT department at my local university. My intentions right now are not even to replace my job with internet marketing. My goal is to make enough with my current job and internet marketing combined to stop living paycheck to paycheck and be able to provide for my family. I have no elaborate visions of making a million dollars through internet marking. I would just like to pay the bills and have money left over. I currently have 2 domains, 1 is an Amazon review site, done with word press. (It looks like crap. I've never built a website before). The other might even be a premium domain, but I made the mistake of choosing the domain around the CPA offer so I don't really know what to do with it. Again, thanks you both for your advice! Any more would be appreciated!

      Totally different suggestion here.

You're an IT technician - that's what you know about and can write best about.

Start a blog. Write about problems as you encounter them and explain what you did to fix them. Don't think too hard about keywords - just write about what you've done. As the blog grows visitors will come. Monetize it with a range of relevant stuff from CPA networks, affiliate networks (such as tradedoubler, affiliate window, etc), adsense. If you use a product that you recommend, such as antivirus, keep your computer running smoothly type thing, child protection software or whatever, look to see if they have an affiliate program. Most do. Sign up, write about why you use it and promote it.

Well I understand you being scared I have been there myself. I do think you need to pick one thing at a time and stick with it for at least 6 months. Then at least you will have some experience about it and maybe when you have some extra money you can pay someone to work on your domains. I know it takes time I know someone that has been doing this for 3 years and he tried everything as well, but he finally found something that is making good money well, but it took along time doing this. It will happen just stick with it and don't give up.

    Thanks
    Christina

Learn one thing at a time. Start with blogging then branch out from there.

Marketing almost universally involves trial and experimentation before a profitable system is discovered.

It might be safest to build on your tech skill and help marketers setup and run their sites through elance, guru.com etc. you cold offer a menu of standard tech tasks most warriors have to tackle. Ideally you would fall into a key team position with a major IMer.

Use what you know to make money.

Turn your day job into your IM career.

Dont need to do much research to do that.

Hang in there Matt. There's lots of people that don't do nearly as much research and are not as persistent. Your bound to have a breakthrough.

    Matt,

I agree with rosetrees. As I was reading your post, I thought, wow it sure would be great to be able to read this guys blog about PC problems that he had and how he fixed them. There is a huge demand for small simple fixes since we are all tied to these machines for our livelihoods. Best to you as you perservere!!!
