How to be 10 Times More Successful on Digg, Twitter, Reddit, etc.
Over here on the WarriorForum, could you get away with that? Could you create an account, post an ad, then run? Well, you could, but it would be deleted almost right away, and you'd be banned too.
On the other hand, Warriors who take the time to establish themselves and contribute quality content get recognized, so much so that when they launch a WSO they often make 4-5 figures within a weekend. They also have no trouble getting hundreds of people to click on their signature links and sign up to their list.
What if we started treating social networking/bookmarking sites like we do a forum like WF? What do you think would happen then?
Take StumbleUpon, for example. The extent that most of us use it is to use it as a sharing widget on our blog, or to bookmark a web 2.0 property for SEO. But it could do so much more for us.
You see, SU is also a community. People comment on other people's bookmarks, and they converse with other stumblers. They also subscribe to people who regularly stumble interesting or high quality web content.
So technically, it's easier to succeed in SU than WF, because you don't actually have to create high quality content; you just need to find it and share it. Not only that, but people can subscribe to your stumbles, so it's like building a list within SU. On top of that, if you were to spend a few minutes to talk with people and comment on/stumble other people's stumbles, more people would find you on SU. You would become a recognized member of the community, and more people would comment on/share the sites you stumble.
So how to monetize? Create a high quality article/video and post it on your blog. Then make a "Part 2", and ask people to subscribe to your list in order to get the second part.
Then stumble your blog post. Odds are overwhelmingly high you'll get a lot more than just link juice for Google.
Just something to think about before you start looking at web 2.0 and social bookmarkings sites as something that is only valuable for SEO purposes.
To your success, Warriors.
