What's A Newbie To Do?

Whew! With all the new products coming across the forum, it really is hard to know what the best thing to do for someone just starting out in internet marketing.

Do I sell my own product?

Do I try to become a superstar affiliate?

Do I set up a JV?

Adsense?

Amazon?

What?

I am not a newbie, but am not a mega-guru who has all the answers.

Sure I've made a few sales on the 'Net, on Ebay, my own sites, here on the forum, etc.

If I was to start out from scratch, I'd probably work on endorsing some one else's stuff... then, with experience... produce and sell my own products.

Anyone else have advice for those newbies that come here on a daily basis?

Cheers,

Millard

The Main thing is, Find something you are good at, or get good at something, then when you IMPLEMENT it, and it brings income, don't switch to something just yet, see if you can expand on it, if you can then do it, if you can't then move one, while that other form of income is still going on....

I know you said you are not a newbie, but I wouldnt recommend starting a product since it does require some knowledge on the subject

    I hope this helps!

When I started out, I tried affiliate marketing with not much success. I admit in hindsight I didn't really have a clue what I was doing. Instead I focused on creating my own products and while I'm not rich from it, it brings in steady amounts each month.

If you have in-depth knowledge on a particular area (It can be anything at all) which other people need, then you could easily create your own information product and promote and sell it.

Sure there is a learning curve in anything you do, and you will need a website with hosting, but its YOUR own baby that you can nurture and grow. Check out my signature link for a free guide on how to do it.

      good luck!

A lot of it depends on your interests and skills. There is no set thing that "works best" -- other than what will work best is what works best for you, specifically.

One of the quickest ways to pull in some coin is by offering your services if you have skills in writing, graphic/web design, videos, or anything like that. Places like the WF are great for that because you can find clients without building a website, though if you're serious about selling your services, a website is necessary.

I like to combine selling my services with my products so I generate truly hands-off, passive income. Selling products and passive income is more of a long-term money making strategy I use, while I freelance my writing services.

It all depends on what you do best.

You've already made some sales so how can you scale that up? What can you do to improve conversions, traffic, ROI?

The trick is to take something that already works and refine it until it's working like gangbusters for you - look at your most successful online venture to date and see wht you can do to improve on it. And believe me, there is ALWAYS something to improve.

Can you throw social media into the mix? Or maybe build up your efforts there? Focus, focus, focus on that one thing that already works and then, when it starts to produce that nice profit on a regular basis, come up with a product about how you did it. Sell that product. Rinse and repeat but keep up the momentum...it's all down not just to taking action but repeating those actions over and over again.

It depends on what you really "like" to do! If you enjoy making your own products and websites, go that route and maybe go into site flipping.

If you like content, make a sales thread.

    Good at designing?

Just try to do what you actually like and then scale it up!

In my limited experience if you try to do everything yourself you will burn out. Instead, try to find what you are good at and base your method on that. Personally I like the writing aspect of IM, and I do some limited backlinking stuff, as well as the keyword research (this is probably the only thing you almost have to do on your own). I outsource or try to trade services for the rest.

BTW if anyone is interested in trading backlinking services for professional article writing email me prevost.kyle(at)gmail!

I think if you want to be "off the radar" and not have to worry about pushing yourself online, then creating niche websites that sell products or have advertising is the way to go.

If you don't mind being in the public eye, then do the product creation thing, etc...

I advise you to look back and watch so far. what inspired you the most? what you liked most in the world of IM? What niche did you learn the most and where you got the best results? From there, the choice is yours. Giving your services in your own area of knowledge is the best way to go. keep it up!.

I think quite a few of us have been in the same boat. Learn so much, even make a little bank, yet struggle to find any consistency.

What I have been doing lately is simply returning to my roots and working with things that have worked decently in the past.

I have done pretty well with article marketing, so I am building two new sites to focus on that form of marketing. Both are niches that I have an extreme interest in, so these will be fun to do (might as well get paid for the things I like.)

I have learned a lot about Kindle publishing and have been toying around with it a lot. Considering it is pretty simple to do, I try to get a few new books up for sale every week. I have even started a product on creating products to sell, but the recent onslaught of Kindle WSOs has me in awe. Hard to put up something competitive with them around, rather just promote them... they do it better. This is one area that I am probably going to start outsourcing pretty soon, at least the formatting.

My PLR sales are still pretty steady. I haven't released a new pack in a while.. which is stupid because I have one that just needs to be proofed and is otherwise ready (from my wife, she is usually pretty thorough.) I have another pack about half done, and am 5 articles away from a OTO to rapid build my PLR list. I really need to make the list my priority here, but I am not upset with the progress at all.

Ghostwriting has been slow, but my primary concern was having a way for my wife to make a supporting income. It works for that pretty well. The hope was to be able to afford a car payment, and it can do that without any further marketing... so mission complete.

The last couple of months has been a loss, but the last week I have really started to get some traction. The big thing that has been helping me with motivation is getting back into shape. Simple exercise is allowing me to sleep much easier, which makes my few hours I have to work a lot more productive.

My next steps are to start cutting the time loss fat (including time on this forum) and start hammering things hard. I have a decent idea where my problems are... so it is a matter of fixing them.

I would say that the best thing to do is build "assets". This would be things like a website with SEO traffic, a list, twitter following etc.

Once you have a community or following you can monatize it pretty much any way you want so long as you have treated them well.

I know it's not the fastest way but certainly it will lead to the most consistent riches.

    Cheers

You got some great answers here...I really like Bambii's response in regards to looking at your likes and skills.
I found myself following all sorts of shiny objects before. I just decided to get back to the basics...what do I enjoy doing? How can I help people who enjoy that also? Once I did that...things started to fall together.
I, for one, felt utterly hopeless writing articles on topics I had no idea about. Others...thrive on learning about different topics, etc.
the one thing I'll tell you...you are absolutely correct in that there are hundreds of different sub-niches within the Internet Marketing field. You'll find one..you'll enjoy it...and you'll make money with it...as long as you have the perseverance to ride through the storms that may come along until you find the thing that you enjoy and makes you money.

    Just some thoughts.
    Take care,

The best advice I could give a newbie is stop jumping from one product to another. Pick a business model you want to run with.

Let me give you an example. If you want to be an affiliate, than decide what selling route you want to take, (SEO, PPC, Media Buying,) etc. Once you decide what route you want to take, than stick with only one until you master it. So let's say you decided to sell products as an affiliate through facebook. Master facebook until you turn blue in the face. Don't jump to another source of traffic until you master it..this is important.

The problem most individuals have is they move from one source to another and never end up making money. Just concentrate on one thing and don't steer away from it until you do make money from it.

    Don't buy products at first.

    Find out what interests you.

Find out what would best work for you.

Evaluate which route you wish to take,
then proceed to a product or two. If you
cannot apply what you have learned, you
might as well throw your money in a toilet
and flush. So, take it easy the first few
months. Don't be in a hurry for success as
you will face disappointment more then once.

Actually, Resell Rights Products are the easiest way to make money online for all newbies and also talented IM or even gurus.

As you know, you don't need to create your own product, sales page, sales graphics by yourself at all. You just invest in some good products that come with master resell rights or private label rights. Then you can instantly upload to your host and ready to sell. Just promote your site properly you will get results very soon.

You can find cheap resell rights products right there OneBuckEbook.com

      To all success!

I have a different take on this. You can easily make money by selling to OFFLINE clients.

Remember, even though you are a newbie inside this forum, many people in the offline world completely don't understand about "our world" and they can easily be cash cows.

Just need to work on your sales skill and you can generate fast money. Then you can use the money to build your online (affiliate, etc.) empire.

That's how I would do it and that's how I started.

In terms of level of difficulty, affiliate marketing or selling services here or on other similar forums will most likely be easier than creating your own products, so I would recommend one of those two options.

But, like others have already said, you need to also figure out what you actually "like" to do the most. Once you have that figured it, then you gotta stick with it and give it a fair shot before you jump to something else. I still have this problem myself at times!

    Best of luck

Personally, I would recommend learning as much about SEO as you can in the beginning (Link building and all that good stuff) because it can help with any path you choose.

Though I don't mean only focus on seo. I mean if you start with Classified Ad posting, I would still recommend you definitely read up on SEO on the side.
