Is there some benefit to being included on both? Sure.

However DMOZ is near impossible to get in and Yahoo last I heard was like $299 a year...hardly worth it IMO.

I really wouldnt stress about it, they are not very important at all.

I submitted my authority site to DMOZ and six months later nothing... I checked and noticed that category didn't even have a moderator! I applied to be a moderator and got accepted and added my site, plus did some moderation work for all the other sites to be fair.

I check the submissions once every few months so it might be hard to get accepted if the mods are not active anymore

I understand what your saying but tools like Traffictravis seem to imply that these 2 directories are key to be successful

        They're not.

Don't get distracted by such stuff.

Dmoz is free - so submit and forget. If it doesn't go in - that's life.

It's not as important as it used to be and definitely not required to get top rankings.

The reason a lot of tools include them is a) because they add perceived value to the tool b) they used to be important but the tools haven't caught up and (see a) )

Forget DMOZ. It's a complete waste of time unless you have sites that are 5 years old or older.

Not only that, DMOZ just doesn't carry the weight it used to. I have dozens of sites in DMOZ and the backlinks are virtually useless.

DMOZ - Submit and wait. Simple is that. If you get in, throw a party! LOL
Yahoo Directory - It's debatable. I think if you really need a link from an established site, then simply pay for it but there's no guarantee that it will do that much or is worth your money. It's an expensive gamble.

These sites will be so bureaucratic that not more than compensates for the effort.

I recommend using your energy in other ways to gain rank.

    Good luck!

DMOZ is almost impossible to get into, give it a try though as you have nothing to lose because its free, follow the instructions closely though.
Apart from that the Yahoo directory is not worth it in my opinion at that price, and i dont even think you are guaranteed a listing!

I recall a site showing the "inner workings" of Dmoz and how corrupt the editors were. I'm not sure if it was a prank or for real, but it does seem feasible.

That site is a dinosaur anyway... I'm sure Google will devalue it if it hasn't already.
