I think I figured out why newbies (like myself) tend to get information overload in the beginning. Were drunk with power!

Check this out... Two weeks ago, I had one option for making money. That was to create an e-commerce site selling my own hypnosis MP3s. For that, I needed start-up capital. So I started hanging around you guys in an effort to glean some knowledge.

Suddenly, the ideas came pouring in. Crazy amounts of knowledge and possibilities.

My hunter-gatherer instinct kicked in and I started mentally collecting everything I saw. More than I could possibly use. Like a pile of surplus berries, the information began to ferment.

The result? Cerebral moonshine.

This is a handy reframe for when you don't know what to do. It's not that you are dumb or can't figure anything out. It's that you literally know way too much. The remedy? Action. Pick something and work it for a while. See what works and what doesn't. Next thing you know, you'll be brewing fine wines instead of brain hooch.

Well said Tim. Collecting material on IM doesn't make you money. Taking action does.

No it's not that you are drunk with power. It's that you don't focus on ONE THING and implement that. Everyone has that problem. I have to deal with that at least two or three times a week.

So if people focus and stay tunnel visioned, they aren't going to get information overload and will target their goals.

In the tech industry, we call this knowing "enough to be dangerous."

It usually takes a couple years of close supervision and continuing education to get past it, which is why most people recommend you get a mentor.

You can be your own mentor. You just have to understand that you don't know quite enough, and be careful, and double-check your impulses with the community.

    Startup Capital?

Depends on what you plan to do, wordpress with some plugins could easily offer downloadable MP3's you can charge for.

Create a site around hypnosis (Ericksonian?) and tips for it, something personally I'm very interested in.

That would build the capital you may need to setup a larger ecomm store later.

And yes not even newbies, we all like a bit of Cerebral Moonshine from time to time, plus we are all newbies in many areas.

Since we're all using analogies, I consistently refer to the "dog chasing it's tail". He's smart enough to know where the tail is and that if he runs real fast, he just might catch it. But after awhile, he's wore himself out and realized he's been going about this thing the wrong way. - OK, he never actually realizes that. He'll stop to lick his crotch and then go right back to chasing his tail.

I agree, simply reading and thinking is not going to bring any money. However I would like to add that most newbies do pass through this phase so it is your own responsibility to draw a line somewhere and start taking action.

If more newbies had Warrior Forum mentors it would make the Action process a little easier.

That sounds like a fine subject for one of your hypnosis mp3's. 'How to Avoid Getting Drunk with Power and Creating Cerebral Moonshine'.
