Copyrighted Images in web-design.

Hello everyone,

I am setting up a website for a friend and its a construction site. It will be basic enough but what is the situation if I want to through up a few images. Like of a house, machinery etc. Is it legal to just search for images and stick them up on the site??:confused:

Thanks for any help

No it is not legal. Go to a site like istockphoto or fotolia and buy cheap stock photos. It is not very expensive and will save you from future problems.

Yes, exactly what ganesh said. I once worked for a firm who thought it was "ok" to use copyrighted images in their products and websites. I tried to tell them otherwise, but they did nothing.

Long story short: I quit and they got sued.

All you have to do is a search for free stock photos on Google and you will get images you can use.

I would avoid the 'free' options. Yes you can find and use them, but they also require attribution (ie watermarks and links). iStock is cheap for what you can get (few dollars for a nice photo that is idea for the web). For the price of lunch you can get what you need. Just pass the price on to your friend (or any client in the future) and make it transparent that you are not doing a markup.
