Tools for time strapped IM'ers

Hey Warriors,

Here are some of the main tools I use to get things done quickly and efficiently... thought I'd list them here so you guys can make more money and use your time more wisely too.

1. Downthemall (firefox plugin)

You can just download streaming videos instead of having to leave a window open with this tool.

Don't have the link, but a Google search will bring it up.

2. The best video conversion software I've come across (and it's free)

It's called "Pazera" and it will convert your videos any which way you want. I usually download webinars and videos but see no point sitting there watching a screen change, when it's all verbalized anyway. I just rip the audio, put it on my MP3 player or on a CD when I'm driving or hitting the gym.

Get it here:
Pazera Free FLV to AVI Converter - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Downloads

Note: I've tried a ton of other converters, this one beats all the "fancy" looking ones hands down.

3. Pen, paper, + the pomodoro timer

Sure, there are tons of task management tools out there. But nothing beats crossing stuff out on a "to do" list. Plus, your tasks won't get lost in some random file on your desktop (you'll get to it later, right?)

Get the free timer here:
focus booster - home; try the pomodoro technique

4. VLC media player

I'm sure most people use this, but it doesn't hurt to list it again. This thing will literally play any video file format.

VideoLAN - VLC: Official site - Free multimedia solutions for all OS!vlc/

I'm sure I've missed a few things, but I'll add more if they come to mind. Feel free to list your own productivity tools and tips.

Best,
Dean

I second dropbox - it's saved me countless headaches over the last year I've been using it.

It's extremely convenient when you know you're going to need a file and not have access to your computer - it also makes files static in the public folder, so any changes are automatically updated. If you do some co-ordination with a team, again, it makes it brain dead easy to share work and notes on it.

I love Focus Booster. I don't use it every day, but I really need to. I am so much more productive when I have a timer helping me.

When I'm researching for new sites to create, I've found Traffic Travis is an incredibly helpful tool. I can get new keywords, check their competition, see where my current sites are ranking, and how many backlinks a site has all in one place. It's nice when you have a one stop shop for everything.

Kecia, I've been asking for many people's opinions on the subject? Do you like TT more than Market Samurai?

Depends on what you need it for. (specifically)

MS for me is better hands down. However I use the competition module extensively and it is far better than TT.

(BTW Market Samurai and Traffic Travis for the uninitiated)

I find TT star rating not that accurate or probably too widely spread at the low end.

That said it does remain free unlike Market Samurai that looses the SEO competition module after the trial period. So if your strapped for cash its TT for that.

However MS has continued free access to the keyword research section which is very good and much easier to use than TT. Especially as you can "tab out" keywords for drilling down and keep everything in a neat and well structured format within the tool.

Pretty hard to do with TT.

I also suggest LastPass, It's a password manager that integrates into your browser. Very handy if you have a bunch of wordpress accounts and the like that you are jumping between.

Nice share Dean. I use the Pomodoro technique every day, using a desk timer so the Focus Booster is a welcome addition :-)

My share really does help you build Sitemaps in seconds. It's a free online service called xml-sitemaps.com. It'll build an XML sitemap very quickly and I use this whenever I build a new site or add new pages to an existing site.

And a great way to check very quickly if you have any broken links on your site is to use the Xenu link checker. A free service, and don't be put off by the plain description page. Find broken links on your site with Xenu's Link Sleuth (TM)

I know it's so old fashioned, but I agree with poster above about...Pen and Paper! Don't laugh, make organized notes, lists, cross them off. It also allows you to feel tangible achievement.
