Web design color match question...

Why do my colors not match up sometimes when I use the color picker tool from photoshop for defining a background color? This leaves me guessing for what color looks best to match it. I notice this issue only happens with some web browsers, does the browser offer difference color sets? Any ideas? Does any one else have this problem?

I've never had this problem. I'm not sure what you mean when you are talking about browsers and photoshop. Tell us exactly what you are doing and we can help you out with the problem.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I find the "colour" on a site appears to vary across the screen depending on what angle you have the screen tilted at and also depending on what colours are surrounding it.

For example - what is, in reality, a plain colour background will look like a gradient on most flat screens that are tilted.

A paler colour, surrounded by dark colours will appear paler to the eye than it actually is. I had just this problem a few days ago when I was designing a site for an artist friend. I was trying to make the background of the main part of the site match what appeared visually to be a pale cream part of her picture.

When I used my favourite tool (Pixie) to pick the pale cream, it turned out to be a fairly dark olive colour. I then spend a happy few minutes finding a pale cream that matched what my eye thought it was seeing. If that makes sense!
