Protect your online business...

Everyone needs to know how to protect themselves properly online. If

you don't, you'll soon be finding yourself out of a few thousand dollars
or perhaps your personal credentials are leaked somewhere on the net.

There is a lot of things you can do in order to protect yourself online, but
one of the most important ones is protecting your email.

You are not born security conscious, you are made security conscious.

Most of the time, you cannot blame third party applications (such as WSO Pro
as WSO Pro has no direct access to your email account.), but there are definitely
occasions where you can blame an app. This is not the case, so I will cut to the
information.

For years now I have been using these two email providers: Hushmail and Gmail.

Both of them have a free option, so you don't need a required budget nor do you
have an excuse if you do not make the change. Hushmail is a business-type email
service (even considered military/government) due to its high encryption and built-in
security features. For one, you are not able to recover a password, so if someone
else tries to change your password through the recovery system, it won't work as
there is no recovery system. All of your emails are deleted once and for good, too.
Most email providers keep your mail for an extended amount of time (even if deleted)
due to liability, but not Hushmail. Also, Hushmail is highly encrypted. So, that is all
I will say, if you wish to find out more visit their site here.

Gmail isn't as interesting, but it's decently safe. If I had a rating scale, it would be
second compared to hushmail. Their recovery system is a lot more secure then
providers such as GMX, hotmail, etc.

I have used Hotmail in the past, but after hearing many friends having their accounts
hijacked, I found a solution and made the move to the provider asap.

I'll leave it at that. Make the move if you are using hotmail.

Also, don't make your personal email public, use a different email or create one
for that sole purpose.

If I've got something I wouldn't want the world knowing, it gets encrypted with GPG. In addition, I use Google Apps for Domains and backup regularly.

Worst case, someone breaks into my gmail - I terminate the account with Google, and move to a self-hosted solution while I figure out what to do. I keep my old emails (offsite backup), keep getting email at the same address (I host my own), and the attacker has access to a bunch of spam and some hashes.

I only use free email services for signing up to forums, websites, etc.. Any place I suspect my email might get spam from.

Otherwise, I have numerous domains and websites with standard email using Thunderbird email client. It's very simple to backup and restore my email using Thunderbird.

I've recently had two alerts from Yahoo about my email account being compromised and the need to change my password details. I mainly use my domain email addresses which don't seem to have any problems.

Guys, trust me. Make sure your passwords are long, full of different characters, and updated regularly. Don't get complacent with this stuff like I did. It's really not worth it!
