Best strategies for marketing fan pages?

Alright, so I got a coupon for advertising on facebook for $50. I recently started an ad that targeted anyone in the US who is 18 or older and isn't already a fan. Broad, I know, but I'm not sure how to make it more refined without eliminating my target audience.

You see, it's a fantasy story kind of thing, and there aren't very many people on facebook who have that listed as their interest.

This is the page I'm advertising: The Dread Chronicles - Secret | Facebook

Any advice? Thanks.

Yeah that's way too broad, you'll be paying out of your nose. Fantasy you say? Can't say I know much about that, but targeting fantasy movies/books/etc as keywords would be a good start.

I've tried switching to targeting broad interests such as "Literature/Reading", and "Science Fiction/Fantasy" under "Movie/Film". Hopefully that will yield more loyal fans.

Here's a strategy you could do on the side (may not bring as much traffic).

You can use Auto-Follow Twitter software like Twidium to follow by keywords. So for example every time someone mentioned 'reading science fiction' you could automatically follow them. Then unfollow those that didn't follow back within a few days.

You could then send them to your Facebook Page for a free chapter or other giveaway. Twidium is free for a week I believe.

When I target FB, I generally break up the groups into gender and age group. For example, Male: 18-22 23-27 28-32 (4 year increments) and so on, and then do the same thing for Female and I run this set of demographics with both broad terms as well as a set with keywords in it to see which will run better. Just make sure your tracking is tight and your split testing a lot of different images.
