I think for any newbie you should make sure that you build a list. You are going to hear this a lot, but the point is that your list becomes your customers that you can work with to build lasting relationships with.

If you take care of your customers, they will buy from you again and again.

Just provide your customers with quality, value, and support.

You should always realize that it's going to take several months to a year for any website or even page to fully mature in the rankings. That is, if you perform SEO on a page or website, it'll take about a year for 100% of your work to have had an effect. This can be discouraging for a lot of newbies as they don't see the money rolling in right away.

That said, it is certainly possible to rank for a keyword right away or even quickly. You can get on the first or second page for somewhat competitive keywords in a couple days, weeks, or months. But you'll usually continue to move up for about a year after you stop doing SEO.

Find one or two people who you think you can trust, and who have a good, step by step training system, and follow it!!!!

Dont jump around from one thing to another, or at least, stop jumping around very soon!

Here is a tip for newbies:

        Learn BEFORE you spend

I've seen a lot of people who were new to IM and thought they had found a simple solution to earning money. They spent a lot of money on something, like a "Website GUARANTEED to earn $450 a week!" and then end up getting their Google, Amazon and Affiliate accounts banned for life.

Coming from New York it's easy for me to say that you can't trust everyone but some people haven't learned that lesson yet.

In my honest opinion, the easiest way to start IM is to focus on gaining an income...and focus on gaining the knowledge.

    HEres why:

When I first started I focused only on gaining the knowledge. I thought to myself "if i get the knowledge..i can jump straight to making a lot." I knew id have to do work..but i was willing to do it.

2 years later, I make money online..but not nearly as much as i'd like to. Why? Because I never had any money back then to be able to grow and i didn't have the time to put in the work it requires when you go the free route.

Don't get me wrong..money is not necessary in order to make money..but it makes life easier.

I would suggest you start out by learning a trade (video editing, article writing, design) and selling those services. Use that for a while and while your doing it focus on learning a specific method of selling products (unless u choose to stay in services). Build up some money to play with..then start implementing the specific method you have been learning about.

Make smart decisions with your money and do everything you can to stay in the positive and you will see success.

    Just my 2 cents

I've been doing Internet Marketing for a few months. I advise you to not move from one idea to the next. Stick with one idea and keep going with it. You eventually make money. It will take time.

"Relationship" is the name of the game. Build good and strong relationships here on this forum, twitter, Facebook, your own blog and most importantly with your list - then and only then do you stand a chance to make it online.

In addition to that never stop learning - you will never know everything but as they say, "a little knowledge goes a long way" even if you have to learn it the hard way!

Be persistent - success is not over night and certainly not for quitters. Plan your path, set your goals, set forth and follow through till you get there

    Good luck,
    Zulf

I am also new to the IM biz. I found myself getting caught up in all the information out there and not taking action! There are a lot of concepts and it's easy to keep switching your thought pattern and the method you think you'll use. As mentioned above, pick one thing that you like and try it out.

I too would appreciate advice when it comes to list building, since it was suggested a few times here. What are traffic methods have you found to be successful?
