This is the time. No more reading. No more hit and miss. No stopping. No letting up until IM provides me with what I need, what I KNOW it can. I have a huge life-changing event approaching, and now is the time. I'm tired of tinkering my life away with this.

I have been experimenting with IM on and off for 3 or 4 years now. I have made very little money, hit and miss at best. And nothing I would consider true IM really, meaning something sustainable and self-perpetuating. Mostly selling physical goods which I want to get away from.

I spent much of those 3 or 4 years reading and learning rather than making money. I definitely became aware of information overload and tried to focus myself, however I did learn a lot in that time. I also have had a decent paying, very stable career, which has not been helpful. I say this because it lulled me into complacency more than once, which always ended with me being very irritated with myself.

Which brings us here.

I know I have all the building blocks I need, all (well most) of the knowledge and skills, I just haven't been able to put it all together into a well-constructed business model.

Here's what I have:

1) Basic knowledge of how IM works and the principles behind it
2) Basic skills (basic html, web design/hosting, IT background etc)
3) Small to moderate amount of money to invest
4) Existing LLC
5) Existing web hosting
6) Patience (I realize rich-overnight stories are possible but rare)

What I DON'T have is patience for tedious/repetitive tinkering that seems to lead nowhere and doesn't show promise/profit in a reasonable amount of time.

Ultimately the sky's the limit, but I want to build something sustainable. I
would like to get to $1k-$3k/month range as quickly as I can, then re-focus on real money. Or maybe that's the wrong strategy - maybe I should focus on making $100/month and duplicate it 10, 20, 30, 1000 times?

Thoughts? Advice?

Oh and the life-changing event? Our first little girl due in just 6 weeks...yeah she's a motivator for sure

    1. Find a Niche (Pick Something That You Love)
    2. Create and/or Share Tons of Quality Content (Should Be Easy If You Are In a Niche You Love)
    3. Build A List (You Will Need An Opt-In Form on a Webpage)
    4. Build Your Relationship With Your Customers (Very Important... Show Them You Care)
    5. Sell Them Stuff That Will Benefit Them

All of these steps are important. Do them each well and you will have much success.

I think the most successful internet marketers would agree with this

I've found that there are a few prerequisites for a product or service that you want to promote.

        1. It should be something you would buy yourself. It's easier to promote a product that you really like and believe in

        2. It needs to do what it claims. Selling a pencil that never needs sharpening may not be glamorous but if it is true to its claims then you won't waste time refunding money and fielding complaints.

        3. Try to sell just one copy. Once you've sold that first item you can analyze the sale and figure out what made it happen. Once you've made that first sale you know your strategy works so you can scale it up.

        4. Don't limit yourself. I've seen a lot of people promote products and services in a way that sets a limit on their earning potential.

        5. Think outside of the box. You've heard it before but few people act on this bit of wisdom. There are tons of people promoting things to the IM market but there are an almost endless number of other markets out there.

        6. Invest wisely. Don't simply spend money because you think you have to. Investing is different than spending.

Congrats on your new baby and good luck!

I'm in a similar boat...just sort of been tinkering with IM for about 3 years. I feel as if I have the knowledge and the skills I need to succeed...It just gets difficult because of a lack of money to invest or a lack of time (due to college).

I would suggest you take the path that I have chosen to take. Instead of focusing on trying to making thousnds per month. I have chosen to focus on making $5 per day doing something and then either scale it up or find something else to make an additional $5 per day with. It's a concept I read in an ebook a while back and just started getting the time to work on (since i'm on summer break)
