If I have a finance site and get a link from a weight loss that has a pr4 will it help or hurt? I know a link to a high PR site should help but does it really do much if that site is not related to your site topic/keyword(s)? |

You shouldn't bother too much as long as the site you are getting link from is not related to gambling, warez or others.... Sure it helps if you are getting a link from a high PR site from the same field but links from other high PR sites are good as well... Cheers, Anup |

This is an interesting one as all the conventional wisdom will talk about 'trusted neighbourhoods', LSI and the rest. Personally, I've found that it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. I've got trackbacks top listed as backlinks in Google that are surrounded by Viagra and counterfeit watch trackbacks. In fact, Google is perverse sometimes in almost seeking those ones out - my on-topic backlinks often get lost by comparison!

It may helps but I think PR should not be your focus. Sales page of products have PR0 but they bring in sales all the time. So how do they do it? They drive very targeted customers into the sites and make sales. So does PR matter in this case? Cheers, John |

First of all, I don't think the source of incoming links will have negative impact on our sites because Google understands that webmasters can't control who links to us. What really matters is that you must not link out to sites from the "bad neighborhood". Quote:
It is true that there are a lot of traffic building methods such as e-mail marketing, video marketing, social media marketing and PPC advertising and these methods can lead to sales. Let's think of a product on the non-webmaster niche which the BUZZ and HYPE that can be created is way smaller compared to big ticket products in the Internet Marketing niche. These sites need search engine rankings to rake in consistent sales and PR plays a major role here. | |

Oh yeah, it'll definitely help your site (however much one link can really help). The whole Google penalty thing gets way overblown. They're not going to punish sites for getting a single link from an unrelated site. Stuff like that happens all the time with link exchanges and directories.

All links have firepower....the ones that give the most bang are the sites within your niche using the keyword as an anchor tag. A non-niche backlink won't have as much 'oomph' but still won't hurt.
