Sending SPAM to myself?

In the past two days, I have gotten two separate emails from myself. There is just a single link to a site that Google Chrome says that I shouldn't visit it.

It is also being sent to a couple people on my contacts list.

The email address that it is sent from is my own and it even has my name on it.

How can this happen and how can I stop it?

Chances are it's just a spammer forging your name on the "sent from" list to trick you into opening the message. It's fairly trivial to do.

Do you have virus protection. It could also be a virus.

I am thinking that there is a virus on my other computer. I might have been logged in there to check my email.

  • It's never a good idea to send spam to yourself. Stop it before you get yourself banned. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    Seriously:

I've also seen some things on Facebook do that, as well, if you click on them. The last one I remember is the one about seeing what you will look like when you're old, or something to that effect. It put malware on everyone's computer, then sent messages to all their friends, then a few days later everyone was b*tching because emails started being sent out to friends.

If you are seeing messages sent from your account to others in your contact list then your account may be compromised. You might want to run antivirus software on your computer and at the bare minimum reset your password and security question answer. One more thing to check for within your account is any linked email accounts that are used for password recovery.

I myself got this many times. All you have to do is just put the email id in question as spam. And do complete virus and malware scan to your system.Delete all passwords and cookies stored in browsers.

Mainly delete the temp folder files from your system. That should safe. Also send an email to all the contacts about this issue.

Look at the email headers and see where it's originating from. It's almost certainly a spammer using forged headers, though.
