Affiliate marketing in foreign language. Easier?

Hi guys I have a quick question and can't find a final answer.

Im having trouble finding a good niche and thought about doing a site in another language. A smaller market but with alot less competition and maybe I could sell stuff that has high competition in english but low competition in another language. I was thinking about a language supported by amazone... As an exemple , you create a site in french and get an Amazone Canada affiliate program (big french population there)

Then, in google adwords tool I would search for, let say, the words "ou acheter un ordinateur" which means "where to buy computers" and then set the search for Canada, in French language.

Does that open a new world of possibilities? I did some research and I can see some very popular niche that I could take on with very low competition and lots of queries per month. As long as you get lets says 500+ queries per month, its dosent matter if its US or Canada or Italia or China...

Sorry if this is totaly newb stuff but I just cant find my answer :/ I just feel like there is too much that has been done for the english market... although im probably wrong but hey..

Any thoughts?

That's a really good technique if you're capable of developing content in another language and converting the traffic.

If Amazon doesn't have a French language section, you might want to look for vendors that do and see if they have an affiliate program.

My ex could speak / write in Icelandic, English, Danish, and German fluently. I had her help me out with a couple niche sites in different languages and a lot of them did better than their English counterparts. The only thing I notice is that it appears easier to rank in another country with the appropriate domain extension, ie, .is or .de.

You answered it for yourself. Smaller market, less competition. Be aware though, that it's quite possible that you are up against very established competition depending on how small a market you operate in.

In any case, go for it, some tactics will probably work better such as niche sites with EMD domains.

I guess you won't really know until you try it. Take a gamble, dip your toe

    Actually, it does (matter).

It has been discussed several times here in the forum (mainly in regard to Spanish and German) - and it is called cultural differences.

You can be number one with your searches/website in Italian, for example, but if Italian internet users do not buy stuff online... then the plan wouldn't work. (BTW, I have no idea if they buy or not, it was just an example.)

Other markets may lack the disposable cash or maybe they don't use credit cards or maybe they just don't trust the internet (and the online marketers) etc.

Do your homework, research, learn... and make the decision according to your findings.

Germany is a high value ecommerce market. The souther European countries are not. Poland will be big in 5-10 years.

Great replies guys. Thanks for helping.

Itsvan I fully understand your point and it make alot of sense.

EDIT: However Itsvan, I believe if they type "where to buy laptop online" , even if its written in Italian, they probably want to buy the darn thing oline

If I decide to build links to this foreign site, will people here (paid link builders) be able to get me #1 on google even tho they buid links with english sites?

My guess is as long as I have links to my site, it doesnt matter much where they come from, as long as I get enough for google to like me like any other US sites?

    bump.

Anyone can answer my last question?

In other words: Lets says I build a french site. I build links with english sites. Am I penalized or it doesnt make a difference? Do I have to build links with french sites? Will google still make me #1 for the keywords I choose ( french keywords ) as if they were english keywords?

I have done it, you dont get penalized, you can actually write the entire article in English and the anchor text in a different language and still counts as a backlink

Great, thanks for the answer Danny. I was thinking about laying links on french blogs, forums etc... but the main linking to get me on top of google I will pay for someone to build it because its much faster and I dont want to spend 3 months writing articles and comment blogs etc..

I always see region specific CPA offers going up to crazy high EPC's in networks like Neverblue and Maxbounty. This could be why.

    Question:

Lets say I have the keyword "buy pink flowers"and 2000 people are typing it every day in the US and 300 are typing it in south korea. The CPC for the english market is at 2.00 with high competition and in Korea its 0.80 with low competition.

People tell us to aim for high CPC but I belive these numbers are taken from advertising fees that companies are willing to pay for such products. So in Korea since its a smaller market, it would mean lower CPC but wouldnt necessarely mean less money... right?

Please correct me if im wrong!
