From start to now, how long did it take you?

Hey Warriors, I have a few questions for you. From the time you first took action to get started making money online, how long did it take before you first made money, and then how long did it take before you made a full-time income? What mistakes did you make? What would you do now if you had to start all over again?

Myself, I started making money a while ago. It was kind of touch and go. I first made money from an EZA article targeting a "product name review" keyword for a popular IM product. I can't remember how long it took to make money though.

My first "big money" came from an offline client, who paid $1,000 to get 1k facebook fans, which turned out to be a nightmare. Shortly after we got started, FB changed their rules for getting fans, which slowed down the process, A LOT. On top of that the person I hired wasn't a good communicator, and the fans they sent were garbage. But we got there in the end. Wasn't worth the stress though.

For my current project, I'm selling a short fantasy fiction story for $0.99 on the kindle. It's been out a few days, and it's made 5 sales so far, so nothing to brag about. It'll likely take months before it yields any serious results.

    It took me 6 months to see my first dollar from affiliate marketing. It's hard to make money if you arent doing things right.

      I actually got my first signup to a clickbank recurring product within a week, but further sales have been really slow.
      I am still some way from my target of IM as a full time occupation, but getting nearer every day.

    from starting in summer 2005 to making £350 a week took me until summer of 2006, went full time and quit my job in september, had my first £1000 in a week in early 2007

    mistakes: not trusting my instinct on how to run the business, listening to people who had good intentions but didnt have a clue/ letting other people who werent qualified affect my decisions, giving up too soon, not following a proper procedural plan.

    biggest mistake was not finding advice/ people (like this forum!!) and asking for help - it must be that same psychology that stops me from reading the instructions before using a new peice of equipment ;-)

      You've heard the saying "results may vary".

      There are myriad factors that effect profitability online, and you have to convince other people to trust you enough to give you their money. I am skeptical of people who act like they can guarantee your results, because people are too complex to guarantee anything.

      As you said, this website is a real gem for IM'ers, whether newbies or veterans. You can shorten the learning curve by hearing what others have gone through.

      Took me about 8 months before getting my 1st sale. I'm still not full time with it though but every month, my total has been increasing.

    Back in 2005 I started making a few bucks here and there practically by accident. I had a local website that I tried slapping some Adsense on, and it starting making money right away. Not much though, but it got me hooked.

    Never made more than that from that site, but I tried a ton of other things and eventually went full-time with a partner in the summer of 2007. What a great feeling it was I've had some huge ups-and-downs since then, really killing it at times, and almost going broke a few times too. I think that's a common problem in this industry, and the key is to diverse your income and go for long-term projects instead of chasing fast cash.

      Your totally right, trial and error. Making a quick buck is not the trick. Going long term is the way to go.

    I started making money writing off the bat, because I offered my service as an article writer, slowly I started to research more into IM.

    I'm currently working on the micro site model and making little returns through adsense. I'm looking to add email marketing though, hoping to make fairly significant affiliate earnings with that though.

    I use google adsense, it's a hard business to get into and get started. You have to have alot of time on your hands and be able to do all the work.
    Meaning,
    designing the site
    able to upload site to web hosting company
    comment on blogs, forums. without spamming
    writing online content to your site and other sites
    and so on.

    The biggest thing is, you have to work hard and enjoy what your doing. I do.

    I struggled for 2 years making nothing, and this is no joke. Trying to do something with those guru products in my spare time. I think I am just a classic something. I was still studying when I started with IM. Also had a part-time job at McDonalds. Invested a lot of those hard earned burger money into IM but nothing happened.

    I got fed up with working at McDonalds. I became a vegetarian and 2 weeks later I started making money with adsense. Which in turn gave me more motivation. I found this forum and now I am doing all sorts of stuff. It has been 9 months or so that I started earning some real big bucks in various locations. I think I am still finding my place in the IM world.

    Did some product creation with success.
    Did services for other people with success
    Busy fixing stuff for my JV developed SEO tool
    Now building an authority site in a certain niche. 100 UVs a day after 1 month. Just working my ass off!

    That's the main thing though. Invest your energy in something and believe you are going to get where you want and what you want.

    It took me about 7 months. 2 of the biggest mistakes I made was:

    1) wasting my time caring about what people I knew though about my ideas/goals for my online biz.

    2) wasting my time reading endless forums and threads as to how I should go about making my online biz successful. I am talking about spending 4-5 hours a day doing that for months at a time. It is good to be informed, but don't go overboard like I did.

    I started making money right away because my first business was retail, but it took me a good couple of years before I could make a living full time at it. I was brand new and didn't know anything. This was 1999.
