One BIG product...or 10-12 small products?

Warriors, I need your opinion. I'm creating a comprehensive website in the "self improvement" niche. At the moment, I've got about 9-10 solid ebooks on various subjects that fall into under the category of self-improvement. All original and well written.

I'm think of branding all of the under one website and selling them individually as ebooks. But I I'm also thinking of bundling all of them into ONE LARGE physical product complete with manuals, CD's etc.

This way, I can focus on selling one big product vs. 10+ and also, as I've experienced, ebooks tend to fade out and get ripped off, etc. With a large physical product, it has a higher chance of lasting for years with a much smaller risk of people ripping it off simply because it is harder and not a digital product.

So if you were in my shoes...would you create a site and sell all of them under a brand individually and deal with all the logistics of multiple e-products (multiple order links, customer issues, testimonials for each, etc. etc.) or would you go for one high ticket "all inclusive" physical product?

Just wanted to know your thoughts. I'm looking for long term growth and wealth with it, so that is why I'm leaning to a physical product vs. digital ones.

Thanks

Maybe you could do both. Put most of your promotion into the high ticket physical product and make sure that one's the most visible, but also offer then 10 ebooks somewhere else on your site, where they are still visible. Do maybe 10-20% of your promotion for that, and the rest for the large product.

I'd use the eBooks as cheap lead/buyer gen, plus offer the big physical product, but if somebody buys the eBook give them a one time offer for a discount on the big physical product that includes everything.

I'm looking at it like the PRO's and CON's of each like this...

PROS and CONS of multiple ebooks only, etc.

    - PRO - Lower price levels, easier conversions. Can highly target each self-improvement niche ebook with SEO and PPC. Gives user a variety of topics to pick from.

    - CON - Logistics. Keeping track of people ripping it off all over the web due to it being an ebook (Ebay, Kindle, etc. etc.). Customer problems with downloads, etc. Keeping track of multiple products.

PROS and CONS of one physical product with everything

-PRO - Easy to focus on just one big product. Less logistics and customer problems. More money per sale. Easier to advertise one product vs. 10-20 individual products? Longevity, people can't rip it off. Easier to create a website around one product vs. multiple products. Could use a simple shoppingcart system only like eJunkie vs. having to use something like 1SC for multiple products and affiliate system.

-CONS - Harder to sell. Harder to market due to it having multiple aspects, not focused on one "problem" or one specific "niche" within self-improvement. Can't really use SEO.

I would go for multiple products.
Main Reason: It would be easier to market.
I would not worry too much about the logistics. After all, I do not think it would be too hard to manage. And if it is, it would be because you are making a lot of sales (and you will be able to hire an assistant )

I would go for both and here is how I would do it:

I would release each book as one book in the series. If you are going to be marketing to the same people, release one book at a time. After you have released a couple books, let them know they can sign up for the whole series and give them a discounted rate to buy it all.

If you are going to be marketing to different people with each book, then I would just release each book in the series at the same time. At the end of each book, tell them they can buy the whole series for x price, and make sure it is a discounted rate to buy the whole series. I would also advertise the entire series on the same site where you sell the individual books in the series.

To increase conversions, I would advertise the discount price as a limited time offer to get the entire series.

Just wanted to throw a penny or two into this conversation and say that just because it's a physical product doesn't mean people won't rip it off quickly... Frank Kern's Mass Control was on black hat sites in a matter of hours, and it was updated as more was released... Didn't stop anyone.

However, he also made $2997 for each of the people that did buy it, as opposed to (avg $27X10 ebooks) for splitting it up.

The ultimate question is going to be, can your market bear the pricing of a large product so much so that creating one will bring in more PROFIT?

i.e. if it's gonna cost you more for advertising, and you're only gonna be able to sell the large product for $297 and still maintain enough volume to make it worth it... Would it be better to price each guide in the $27 area and spend less on advertising and net more money per increment?

My logic (which is not always right, mind you) tells me that it would probably make you more money to split it up.

Your advertising would be lower, you could cross sell the hell out of your other guides, you could offer an upsell of a package deal, and even offer an additional upsell as a large physical product. Best of all worlds.

Not to mention, splitting it up would allow you to amass a larger list of buyers for which to market to later. If you're looking for long term, that's something to consider.

    Both.

Sell them individually but for each one have a low ticket membership and promote the others to those members and the big package to all of them.

I guess I could focus on the main "big" product and instead of having a HUGE sales letter type of site, I could break down the components of the big package on their own pages on the site. On each of these pages, near the end, I could put a "Buy This Section Only as An Ebook for $XX".

I could set it up like this...

Main Page - Video intro only with Opt-in below the video for more info.

Then once someone subscribes, I can market the product to them, and expose the rest of the site and maybe even make the main site ONLY available to those who subscribe from the main page.

I don't recommand selling anything under $97 period. Maybe you can split them in a clever way and use upsell.

Excellent points to consider mr2! Thank you!

And no, the big package will not be under $97. It will be between $275 - $350. If I go the ebook route, they will be in the $27-$37 range on each.

I would go with your first option. Many smaller ebooks. Brand them all so you have a host of products under your belt.

Even though there are pros and cons with both plans, think about it like this.

I am sure a number of people would take out their credit card a lot faster for a $10.00 to $20.00 product with a really good, no risk for them guarntee, than for a $400.00 to $500.00 product.

Question - Are you certain all of these subjects will sell well?

If not - definitely go with a 'sales funnel' approach. Sell each of the ebooks individually. If one sells well, bundle that ebook with manuals/cds and sell the bigger product. If an individual ebook has crappy sales, bundle it as a bonus with one of your other ebooks or products

I would definitely NOT put a bunch of time into creating CDs/Manuals etc unless certain that the particular product will sell.

Another way of doing it is as an upsell BEFORE creating the upsell product. At the end of each ebook have a 'pre-order now to get your xx% discount' detailing the upsell product. If you get a pre-order then create the upsell product. If you do not get any pre-orders (or at least queries about it) then I would hesitate before creating the upsell product.

How about a little bit of both? Maybe you can have 1 big product and 6 smaller products. Its never good to have one product, then you're simply putting all your eggs in one basket. Divide the risk but give equal attention to everything that way you don't lose out on the profits.

I would do both. I would offer one big package deal, but also offer them separately and let the buyer decide.

This is what I would do: One BIG product + a few small products as bonuses.

People love that, trust me it will double your sales.

I think I may go with both to start. This way I can see which products sell, which don't, and I can even test or ask people and see if they would want to buy ALL of the products, in a physical product, for a one time fee. Makes sense.
