Client Burned by SEO Company.....

I have landed a job doing SEO for an online River Cruise company. Well 6 months ago they paid a company $4000 to do their SEO. Well the company did about 2% worth of work then bailed.

All they did was buy into a few link farm directories and keyword stuff the Home Page Title and Meta Description.

How can I help this cruise company recoup their money?

I can get my hands on the contact and post it online for everyone to look at.

What channels do we need to go through to sue these guys or is it even worth it?

They hired you to do SEO, not to be their lawyer, right?

I would point them in the direction of a lawyer, and then go back to work.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

If the contract stated what they would do and they did it, there is no real legal grounds for suing that I know of. Well OK I guess you can sue about most anything these days, but other than that, just do the work they are paying you for.

If that is not the case, the company probably has lawyers that can handle contract disputes.

I also suspect that if you post that kind of personal information here, the thread will get deleted, as well it should.

I agree - I would not get involved. This is a problem between the buyer and the company they hired.

I would also not offer too much opinion on the value of the service they bought - easy to cross the line into making the client feel they were stupid or gullible and that won't help your business.

It's enough to convince the client that YOU are trustworthy and know what you are doing - when you are talking about "the other guy" you aren't selling yourself.

If the client wants to use a lawyer - it should not be becuase you are advising him to do that. It's his decision to make.

Focus on what YOU can offer him and on the benefits of hiring YOU to do SEO. Don't get involved in the catfight.

Is your employer asking you to get involved, or are you trying to step up and help them out?

Well, you can do it by doing a better job at SEO than the previous firm they used.

If you're not a lawyer, why are you running around trying to figure this out for them? Your job is to do their SEO. That's what they are paying you for. So, go forth and do some SEO.

If they want to sue this other firm, that's up to them. For $4,000, it probably won't be worth it, especially since the legal fees will likely take up a large chunk, if not all, of that.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Dazzle them with your SEO skills. Their legal problems are their own and unless you are a lawyer, you're not qualified to take care of that aspect of their business.

It's not your problem. Just work your magic - if you're good at what you do (no doubt you are), they will recoup their investment and their loss from the other company in extra sales.

    Interesting...

We were talking to a River Cruise company some months ago (6-8?) about doing some SEO for them. We brought in a third party to do some consulting and high-level SEO while we did the grunt work. The deal fell through for us, but I'm wondering if it's the same company...

    Hmmm...
