Forget facbook and twitter

We need to find what is the next medium...Facebook and twitter in my opinion have limited use...i know people who have 20 or more accounts so if one ad goes to the same person with that many accounts then its useless...the purpose of advertising is to profit and not many people can say that

Well you need to remember that the way facebook ads are designed is that you only pay when someone clicks. Chances are if your friend has 20 different accounts and sees that ad 20 different times, they aren't going to click it 20 different times.

It's true facebook and twitter have limited usage..but you have to remember that their main purpose isn't to drive traffic. From a business point of view, the main purpose of facebook and twitter is to take the traffic you already get and build relationships/start conversations with them in order to recycle your traffic and make more off of each visitor.

Driving new traffic using facebook or twitter is possible sure, but it isn't the main purpose..hence why it is somewhat limited.

The next medium is the same as the old medium...all of those traffic methods you've heard of that actually work..use em.

I think I'll just stick with Facebook's 700 million members and Twitter's 200 million members for a while longer. How I'm using them seems to be working quite well, and I haven't run one ad on either site.

Here's a great example of how someone can get great results from Twitter...

Scott Stratten got a book deal, and then coordinated his entire book tour... all on Twitter.

If Facebook and Twitter aren't working for you, then maybe instead of finding the next big thing, you just need to change your strategy a bit.

Use the sites to brand yourself as an expert in your niche, and monetize them indirectly by driving people to your blog or website and monetize the traffic there.

Correct. In doing that, one must also realize that "branding" can work for you or against you. If you jump on Twitter and start spamming the freak out of it, it's highly unlikely you'll ever drive any traffic from it.

On the other hand, if you develop a following based on shared interests, quality and being subtle to the medium ~ the results can be staggering. One of my main sites gets 50% of it's daily 5K visitors through Twitter so I'm a huge fan of Twitter. Always have been. Facebook, that's another story. I just can't find the value in that mess but I'm not promoting acne treatment products, weight loss products, or get rich quick schemes.

Exactly. If you do things properly, Twitter is a gold mine.

Only 20 Twitter or Facebook accounts? I know somebody with over 500 Twitter accounts and nearly 1000 Facebook accounts!! He still doesn't have as many as some of the people frequenting certain black hat seo forums.

I personally have nearly 50 Twitter accounts but they're all tied to websites/blogs/forums I own so they're legit. When I flip a site, I always sell the Twitter account with it. It's a value add service.

I don't Facebook, period. Never have and never will.

but that does say a lot about both sites' numbers they claim as users. Anything they claim you can cut that in half because so many people have multiple accounts on both sites it's ridiculous.

Maybe FB and Twitter are for socializing and if you do that there is no need to hard sell anything. They are both viable means to advertise if you do it correctly.

They are both tools and they only work well if the user knows how to use the tools.

    Have a Great Day!

Facebook can be FANTASTIC for marketing! It's a lot like building a list except people will actually read your posts!
