What to do if someone copied your article and is now ranking higher than you?

I want you to compare my article Advantages of Learning How to Make Solar Panels | How To Make Solar Panels to this article Advantages of Learning How to Make Solar Panels | Residential Sun Power .

I've been number 1 for the keyword "advantages of learning how to make solar panels" (terrible keyword, but I was just testing)....but anyways I check today and i was number 2 all of a sudden. The article is identical, how is he ranking ahead of me when its dup content?

Sucks getting burned when you actually take time to produce original content.

    By having more backlinks? (That's one of the many ways he could be doing it).

    It's very easily remedied, if he's taken your article without your resource-box, or without your permission, or whatever: just serve a DMCA notice on him by email, with a copy to his domain-registrar, his host, and Google. It'll almost certainly be gone very quickly. Not worth losing any sleep, time or attention over.

    Traffic Travis shows that your site has 2 backlinks to this article, which your competitor has none, so that shouldn't be it.

    Regardless, as Alexa said, send him a DMCA and the content should be gone within a few days.

    what you need to understand is that duplicate content does not exist, it is rubbish.
    What does exist is authority content, google will make a decision as to which article it deems to have a greater authority and then rank that article above all other sites.

    Links will not always show up with tools. I have a site that in my google webmaster tools I can see the links linking to my site but when people use alternative software to review my links they do not show up.

    Try placing the author tags in your article, let google know a bit more about you.

      I have seen something similar before, and I think its because the content is fresh content, added to an active blog, so google is giving the site credit for being an active blog that adds fresh content on a regular basis, so rewards accordingly.

      Even though its a copy of your article, its fresh content on his blog and is getting credit from Google for that, It does seem though based on the other example that its only temporary and you will eventually take back that spot.

      All guesswork of course.

    You can get it removed pretty quickly by filing a DMCA notice with their host.

    Glad to see the offending article has been removed. It really is awful when someone steals content like that. Filing DMCA notices can be a pain but I know first hand how good it feels to get stolen content taken down.
