Domain Name Appraisal

Hey,

I have a 9 letter .com domain name - two words. First registered on 1999-12-06 so nearly 12 years old. It has 0 drops, it is registered in DMOZ and Yahoo directory.

Where is the best name for domain appraisal? Like Sedo etc. Anyone have any experience with them?

Or better yet, how would you increase value of such a domain, currently it's just sitting on GoDaddy going nothing. I don't really want to build a site round it, index it in Google for certain keywords, and maybe reduce value because a potential buying doesn't want to do that with it? It more of a generic name which could potentially be about anything, mostly technology.

Thoughts?

Try the namepros.com forum. They have a domain appraisal section where you can get free peer reviews.

Two word domain names generally fetch in upwards of $1000 at the highest and that totally depends on the validity of the keywords.

Does the domain have geo-location? Does it have professional appeal? Such as "ChicagoLawyers", "MiamiRealty", etc??? Those sell for big money.

Don't bother with Estibot, automated valuations are useless and EstiBot just uses Google Adwords data, so you're not getting a real valuation.

NamePros or DigitalPoint, avoid both of those because they're over-run with scammers, that is, unless you want to learn the hard way.

Send me a PM with your domain and I'll give you an honest, personal appraisal for free and if you got something really good, I might have a broker to turn you on to.

Hi, I tried to send a PM, but not enough posts yet. Can you PM me your email and I'll email you, or maybe I can respond to your PM through here?

          Hi LooseChange,
Can you give me your honest point of view about how much can be worth my domain name?
Is really confusing, I have all kind of opinions already.

Yeah I looked at them, I meant more of a human appraisal, i.e. one says its worth nothing, one $700 and the other over $20,000.

Are all other extensions for the domain name registered? If not the domain probally isn't that great if so it could be.

I'm thinking more about the age and dmoz - may be worth something to somebody.

I'd never even heard of estibot before. Thanks for the links to the free appraisal tools.

Vsky, a couple of things to know: One; many people will say you can only get X amount for a domain. That's simply not true. Domain value is very subjective and determined by several factors. The key is to wait it out. For example I just sold one for $3500. If I was in a hurry, I would have sold it for $1000, but I waited it out until the right person came along.

Two: It is a lot easier to sell domains that have sites built on them and a decent PR. Think of a piece of blank piece of land and then think of a piece of land with a beautiful house sitting on it. That beautiful house draws people in and makes them want to buy. If you're not sure what industry they would want to fit your domain, I would build two or three separate pages with beautiful graphics so they can see what it will look like for the one they're most interested in.
