Hi everyone, can anybody tell me how to stop Windows 7 to go on standby all the time?

  • I think by "Windows 7" you're referring to Windows Vista?

Either way, PC settings like standby are changed in the Power Options. Here are the steps for XP and Vista:

    1. Click your Start button, then Control Panel. On Windows XP follow these steps (see Vista steps below):

    2. If you're using the "category view" with icons arranged in categories, click Performance and Maintenance, then Power Options. A "Power Options Properties" box will appear. Look for the System standby box and change it to whatever you like.

If you're using the "classic view" with the icons all in one window, click Power Options and follow the rest of the instructions above.

If you're using Windows Vista, click the Start button, then Control Panel, then Power Options. On the left shortcut bar choose "Change when the computer sleeps".

Then choose your sleep (standby) option.

Note: On Vista I've seen the shortcut bar look different on a few manufacturers. You might have to look around a little but it's in the Power Options section somewhere.

Good luck and hope it helps.

You may not find many people who know about settings in Windows 7 since it hasn't been released yet.

Yes it's the beta version, my son got it and wanted to know about the stanby.
It's kind of hard to find at the moment LOL.

Try Paul Thurrott's WinSuperSite.com blog. He's had a copy for a few months, and is as well versed in Win7 as anyone outside of MS.

    Hello,

how does this compare to Vista? I know its OT since we're a marketing forum, but i got a high-end PC w/ Vista64 and ever since i installed Vista64 i cant help than think that it runs slower than my old (way slower hardware!) PC which has XP on it.
(Which is a joke since this PC has 4 cores, 4GB memory etc. and the other one is OLD

People always think "the next OS" will be better and faster...but in reality everything MS releases just brings more bloat and slugginess than what he had before...so i have my doubts whether Windows7 will actually improve over Vista...

The word on the street is Windows 7 is an order of magnitude better than any OS Microsoft has ever released. Less bloat, modularised, far greater performance...

I get the impression this is what they wanted Vista to be.

For the first time since '98, I'm genuinely looking forward to this one.

A simple way to speed up vista is to turn off the decorative visuals.
It looks a bit different with a rectangular start button instead of
round with 3d effects, but I really like simple anyway and it is easy
to reverse if you don't like the change.

Click Start, then RIGHT click on Computer. Click on Properties.

Under Tasks in the upper left, click on Advanced Systems Settings.

"Windows Needs Your Permission..." click continue.

Next window, System Properties, it should already be on
Advanced tab, if not select that.

Find 'Performance' box (top one) and click on Settings.

Performance Options window opens. Under Visual Effects tab,
simply select 'Adjust For Best Performance' and click Ok.

Click Ok again and you're finished. To reverse, just follow the
above steps and select 'Let Windows Choose What's Best For
My Computer'. You can also choose Custom and check
      whichever features you wish.

You can also go to control panel>system and maintenance>
power options and choose between performance and energy
      efficiency.

When it comes to a choice between performance and appearance
I go with performance. I would be happy with just a plain text
      start button.

I tried out ubuntu a week ago on 2 different computers and there
were discouraging problems right from the start. A different one
on each puter, but guess I'll stick with vista. Did try out Mac for
my first one but definitely did not fall in love with it.
